For penalties I would imagine it would go to 4 on 3 and 5 on 3 (for 2-man advantage).

Haha. Could you imagine a 3 on 2 or a 3 on 1 PP?

While there is still nothing wrong with a tie, the good news out of this is that there might not be 50 shootouts total next year under this rule.

There is absolutely something wrong with a tie. It's ridiculous to pay money to see a game where no one ends up winning.

I like it.

Won't see many games reach a shootout now... I'm thinking <5%

Ahh yes, the old "A really big font makes my argument much more impressive and doesn't make me look like a giant d-bag" gambit. Well played.

That said, if you are so shallow that you need a contrived joke like a shootout to feel satisfied, well....

David Schlemko is sad. Half his UFA bargaining power has been taken away from him.

Ended up seeing a 3 on 3 OT in the AJHL a couple years ago. So exciting, and tons of chances. Looking forward to this being implemented.

Any OT penalties should be an automatic penalty shot.

Seems around 13-15% have made it to a shootout over the last 3 seasons. Dropping it to 5% would mean about 100-110 more games decided in OT, and 100-110 more scoring plays that can show up in a players individual stats.

Prefer 4 on 4 before 3 on 3 but this should still reduce shootouts so it's not all bad.

I think Brodie will be our deadliest weapon in overtime.

A little better than a shoot out, but still shinny.

If the season is all about qualifying teams for playoff hockey, why use modes you would never see in the playoffs?

I grant that it could be entertaining, but this reduces the team element. Benches will get really short for 3 on 3.

will be interesting to see the ramifications of this on the standings. I suspect it will lead to more artificial parity as the depth of the really good teams will be nullified by only needing maybe 4 forwards and 2 defenceman for the entire overtime. It may also lead to 5 minutes of keep away

I see this as a good thing. Best players on both teams battling for the extra point. Benches are already shorter in 4 on 4 and this rule change will amplify that even further.
