I like it. Low risk move and adds some competition in camp. Like Treliving would say, "another bullet in the chamber".

Corey Pronman (prospect writer for ESPN) said on Twitter that he's a decent skater for what it's worth.

I wouldn't count on much for offense, but a physical defenseman who can move a bit is worth a shot. We have plenty of offense from our defense anyways - we just need more reliable options on our bottom pairing.

I think we already knew that. This is more likely not a good sign for anyone who wanted Diaz back next year.

They should let him keep his number, and have Brodie switch back to 66, just so we can watch the riots every time the Flames go to Pittsburgh.

There's been rumors that Smid is in danger of never playing hockey again.

I am assuming Diaz or Schlemko is on the way out. Maybe they'll let both walk.
Wouldn't be surprised to see Schlemko back.

I'm sure Kipper was pumping the tires for the Flames and for the city -- making the playoffs this year (and winning Round 1) wouldn't have hurt either...

I've read this come from Fan960 a week ago, but this has been bantered around for weeks. Other then the fact that it was a pretty serious injury, is there any justification for this speculation?

I guess they re-sign Schlemko and then have Schlemko, Wotherspoon, Nakladal and Morrison battle it out for two spots in camp. Unless they also go out and splash cash on a UFA, of course ...

He hasn't even skated if memory serves. In any case, I am certain we will find out more as the off season progresses. But that hit by Despres was terribad. Right to the back of the neck/head.

I think I would much rather have Wotherspoon playing top pairing minutes with Morrison in Stockton than him alternating with Nakladal and Engelland for a bottom pairing spot.

Would much rather let Tyler get more playing time in Stockton, play top pairing minutes, and the Flames re-sign Schlemko to have Schlemko/Engelland/Nakladal alternate as the 5/6/7's.

I was listening to a interview from Treliving on this, he basically said with injuries to your blueline, you need 8-10 blueliners that can play. Pairing this up with a comment in March that one reason they really like Schlemko is his ability to "play up the roster" and I think the deals you will see is guys who can be 7-8 defenseman that can fill into your top 4, guys like Diaz and Schlemko. I don't think we will see any upgrades to the top 4, but I can def see the bottom end filling out. Something like:

Gio, Brodie, Wideman, Russell
then 5-7: Engelland, Schlemko, Diaz
8-10 that will probably see NHL time: Wotherspoon, Nakladal (?), ???

Ramage, Culkin/Kulak (forget which one) maybe Morrison hopefully pushing up the roster.

Wotherspoon will probably inevitably push Engelland by the end of next year, someone will push Wideman out of the lineup within 2 years, and Diaz's spot will probably get pushed as well.

Part of me thinks we haven't heard the last of Douglas Murray either, I think it'll be on a 2-way deal.

Even if that isn't Jakub and is, in fact, Ondrej, it doesn't matter. From what I understand, Jakub and Ondrej are brothers. I also believe Ondrej never played for the Czech national team. Only Pardubice in 05 and 06.

I think he signed because Gillies took him aside to explain about the red mile and the women in Calgary.

If Pedan is the defensive Datsyuk, then Nakladal can be the defensive Crosby.
