This.
As much as a lot people do not want to admit it--the league is better off with Toronto being a good team.
It's funny following hockey in the States versus Canada. Down here, all Pro-American bloggers/media types want the game to succeed, and have the country be hockey crazy like Canada (Lambert, Josh Cooper, and Greg Wyshynski--also Roenick from a TV standpoint come to mind). But at the same time they have no issue pointing out a city like Toronto being hockey crazed and just too over the top. Why is that considered a 'bad thing'?
The overall perspective down here always comes off as "Canadians are so hockey crazed--they don't care about anything else--Canadians team suck, etc.." It just really drives me crazy, as there is almost a lack of respect amongst American fans post 2005, as the game has gotten more popular here (the game growing is a good thing! Don't get me wrong). Team like Pittsburgh, DC, Boston, Chicago, LA, and NYR having success is also great for the league--but so many fans of those teams probably couldn't tell you much about those team prior to 2007 or 2008. Try telling a Capitals fan that the Flames won a cup in 1989 and they will think you are insane!
All in all, I think my overall point is that I seem to be one of the few American fans of Hockey who wants the game to thrive and continue to thrive in Canada, and having a guy like McDavid in Toronto would not make me upset in the slightest.

I picked Toronto for this same reason.
I despise the Habs and don't really mind the Leafs.

I have to vote Columbus too. When they made the playoffs a couple seasons ago they reminded me the Flames today. A bunch of underdogs who everyone doubted, yet they made noise due to hard work and playing with heart. They just can't haven't been able to sustain any long term success. Nash was supposed to be their franchise superstar, but we all know how building around a winger goes. A 1-2 punch of Mcdavid & Johanssen would be one of the leagues best down the road. They have a good management team, good players and loyal fans. They actually deserve to be good for the next decade.

The last time the Leafs were good, two Canadian franchises left the country in consecutive years and a third went through bankruptcy proceedings. HNIC stopped doing regional broadcasts of every Canadian team (except Quebec, thanks to the jerks at Molson), and started broadcasting the Leafs every damned week.
If you want hockey to thrive in Canada, the last thing you need is for the Toronto-based media to have an excuse for ignoring every other team in the country and inflicting their wall-to-wall Leafs coverage on a national audience.

I voted NJ but it should've been Philly. Sid vs McDavid would be fun to watch. Plus Philly doesn't tank and try to win at any cost. All other teams are tankers or have seen enough success lately that they don't deserve him.

Toronto hasn't been a good team in 45 years, and the league experienced unprecedented growth.
Stay the course.

Gotta be Philly.
Great hockey market, the Flames only would have to face him a few times a year and most importantly, they are not tankers.

I posted this in the other thread but I guess it should be here. I picked Edmonton because I think it would be great for hockey in Alberta. I would like to see the battle of Alberta become an intense rivalry again. I don't think McDavid puts Edmonton higher then us. As much as it pains me to say Edmonton as a hockey fan it would set up some potential epic games in the future. I bet it would motivate our guys to take their game to a even higher level.

Edmonton would just ruin the kid anyways.

It's a risk I'm willing to take. Edmonton is going to get a good pick this draft with or without McDavid.

I'm hoping Columbus wins the lottery and gets him. I think the team and their fans deserve something positive. Seems like they get good fan support, and the team is always trying to improve (rather than just tank to the bottom).

I'd be fine with the Leafs getting him. The media would be annoying, but I have lots of Leafs fan family and I'd be happy for them. Basically I'd be ok with anyone but Buffalo, Edmonton and Arizona.
Voted Philly.

1 of Columbus or Arizona and I'll be happy.
Columbus deserves him, and so do their fans.
Arizona doesn't deserve him... but McDavid would go a long way in turning that franchise around.

Gotta be an eastern, non-tanking, team for me. Went with Philly but Columbus would be fine as well.

I want McDavid in the west. Sick of seeing all the big number star forwards go out east and get all the media attention. Backstrom, Ovechkin, Crosby, Malkin, Stamkos. Every year these guys put up huge numbers against the bottom feeders but come playoff time are shellshocked at the level of play. Only Boston ever played "West" hockey over there and it was no surprise they were in two straight SCF and then a President's Trophy.
Would rather McDavid claw and grab his path to the playoffs on a team like Arizona or even Edmonton, than pretty much cruise his way to home ice every year. It's better for the sport for some of the media attention to come out west... it sort of is half the NHL after all.
