Stajan + Bollig for Jokinen + 3rd? The expiring benefits us as we need the roster spot next year, and i'd say Olli is an upgrade overall. Would be hilarious to have him back for a third go around.

I feel sorry for whomever gets picked with that 1st. Instead of going to Nashville and being developed correctly, they'll be going under the microscope in Toronto and getting the Kadri treatment.

Sounds like Mrs. Olli likes the trade more than her husband. Don't worry Olli you will be traded soon to a playoff team.

Well before trade #Leafs did offer pending #UFA Franson a contract ext in ballpark of 14m over 3 yrs. Clearly not in his ballpark.

Jokinen is one of the worst puck possession players I've ever seen, and I'm not talking about advanced stats. I'm talking about watching him play. Despite his size, he can't protect the puck or win one on one battles to save his life. If he and Stajan went into a corner battle for the pick, Stajan would win in 9 times out of ten.
Jokinen is a terrible player, no thanks.

Not sure about that. Kadri was picked 4th overall (or something like that) this pick will be in the 25-30th range.

I think it's a bit of karma for Olli. They guy always was out for cash. Probably had multiple opportunities to sign longer term at lesser rate. But teams are always trying to upgrade and get rid of guys like him

The 1st round pick sounds sexy, but right now it's going to be one of the last two picks, so it's not like it's a top 20 pick or anything.
|
Late 1st round picks can turn into Claude Giroux or Corey Perry. Emile Poirier is looking like a really nice addition to our prospect pool and he was a late 1st. I think it's not a bad return for the Leafs based on what they gave up. We got a similar return for Bouwmeester and Iginla as the Leafs got for two depth players bundled.

I never said you couldn't get a decent player with a late 1st, just that it sounded better than it is.
edit: is, not sounds. That didn't make sense.

You might need to check up on that.
Stajan is much, much better than Jokinen. We may not be talking value (since Stajan has 2 years left after this), but if we are trying to make the playoffs, Stajan is the better choice.

Jokinen has been absolutely dreadful this year.
He's a cap dump in this deal. Can't believe people are comparing him to Stajan. Love Joki, but I do not want his total inability to score or hold onto the puck on this developing team.

I think they got a slight upgrade in Leipsic to get Franson on for a lower price.
I would guess they will try anything they can to flip Joiner now. Feel bad for him an entire career on loser teams, finally gets on a good one and they get rid of him.

to me it could possibly best be used as a sweetener to move up a few picks if they want to target someone depending on where they finish

Upgrade on Bollig, but that's it. The guy has all of 6 points on the season. All he can do anymore is eat up minutes.
The Predators just became a lot better for the playoff push, and Toronto gets a good pick, a prospect and a boost for their tank. Everybody wins.

Do they still throw waffles on the ice at Leaf games? Cue Jokinen waffle gif.

Looks like prices have normalized from last year. Teams are getting close to full value returns for rentals.
