whereas the other Canadians drafted in the top 12 last year
Ekblad (Feb 96 - NHL)
Fleury (July 96)
Ritchie (Dec 95)
Perlini (April 96)
Bennett (June 96)
Virtanen (August 96)
Dal Colle (June 96)
I imagine if we look at this team next year outside of Ekblad you are going to see it built around some combination of the other 6 unless they are in the NHL

I don't think either of the goalies will amount to much in the NHL. The Canadian teams from previous World Jrs are sprinkled with "star" goalies (Fiset, Pogge, Legace, Storr, Denis, etc.,) that didn't amount to much more than strong back-ups and I don't either of them stole the show like previous goalies.
Petan really impressed me and makes it a bit tougher to swallow that he was on the Flames list from 2013 and we just missed out on him. I think he's going to be an impact player for a long time for Winnipeg.

I missed Reinhart but I think only Reinhart and McDavid will be stars. Playing against real men who can play the angles will really limit most of these players. Nurse isn't intelligent enough. Sure he can mouth his opponent and rough them up, but against tougher competition, he needs to develop more smarts and awareness of his surroundings. I don't think he'll develop it. Duclair is super interesting though, because he has height and sense to go where the puck is going. I'm very curious how the Rangers develop him and if they ease him into situations. Domi's really agile and shifty but with the diabetes complications, as well as the size disadvantage and not being as explosive as Gaudreau, I'm not sure he'll crack a top two lineup team. Fabbri to me has a good up close shot, so someone who's good on the PP or shootout, but I really have no idea if he'll be good for much else. I thinking Jussi Jokinen. Aside from that, this was a quick team, and you'll probably have 3 guys who'll be good 3rd liners (Lazar and Ritchie), and 5 more of those guys who'll have their occasional cup of tea in the league, but nothing more then that.

Where do people see Theodore fitting in? I haven't seen many comments about him.
I thought he was solid if underwhelming....didn't seem to make many glaring mistakes. Probably not top 4 potential from the limited viewing I had.

I meant to also vote for Crouse. Was really impressed with his game as a 17 year old. Should really light it up next year.
The one guy I don't see star potential who is receiving a lot of votes is Lazar. Good player, great guy but not so sure about impact player. Perhaps unfair, but more like a Manny Molholtra career (without the injury)?

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

He got knocked around pretty well by the Russians. Against men it's going to be tougher. I just think that usually the small guys get by through being elusive. He didn't seem to avoid those hits very well, and wound up in his butt more than a couple times.

He's an agitator and the Russians took some extra shots at him. That's what he wanted - you could tell right from the start of the game. Sometimes he goes down easier (dare I say exaggerates or dives). I didn't notice the Russians knocking him down that much and more importantly, I didn't see it impacting his game. He still got through traffic and had quite a few chances.

He is an agitator all right. But he got caught a lot more by the Russians than in other games because the Russians were fast enough to hit him and big enough to hit him well. I didn't think the Gold Medal game was a great one for him, compared to previous games, actually. There were lots of chances for him, but there were chances for everyone in that wild one. I'm not sure his game is an NHL one.

Really interesting. Recency effect really. Five years from now Nurse will be a second paring d-man, Lazar will be fluttering between a second and third line, and Morrissey, who knows. I still think Reinhart and McDavid will be the only two standouts.

McDavid, Reinhart, Petan, Fabri, Domi, Nurse.
Although Bowey impressed me as well. Morrisey I see being more like Kris Russel/Hickey/Ellis then a star. Still good just not elite.
