The right way is the way they are doing it now... sheltered minutes like Monahan. Give the kid a break everyone its only 3 games. He is still recovering the after effects of the flu, playing a lot more than he is used to and is learning the NHL game. He will learn ZERO going to the AHL. Patience....

It was a veteran team against a team where their most talented players are young and inexperienced. It went just as expected and the only excuse could be the flu. Anxious to see how Ramo does in the next game.

The Blues have just as many young and inexperienced players as the Flames. I'm actually shocked by how impressive the likes of Tarasenko, Schwartz, etc., look and how easily they slot into that lineup.
A contending team but still able to slot young players into really important roles. We can't even do that as a rebuilding team.

I take comfort saying goaltending is not an issue! Big plus! Goalies have been stellar.
Setoguchi and Engelland! Opening minute of the game was hilarious. Kinda feel sorry for setoguchi. He is the whipping boy, and that just made it so easy to hate him. I don't think he belongs on this team, but seriously, it was a fluke how things happened. It looked awful. I would give him 20 games before judging. Yet a couple more games like this, it wont take 20!
We were outmatched tonight. I also believe the line combos play a part in this. I also believe ST Louis is just a better team.
As for Gaudreau? Love the kid. Belongs on the big team. Yet question whether a year in the minors will serve him well. We are gonna suck this year, don't want him part of the suck fest.
Colborne? Amazed at his growth. Guy is totally impressing me, and has zero chemistry with Gaudreau. Colborne has looked great. Yet these two guys on the same line just don't work. Colborne has really impressed me. Using his body his size, and also his speed and when I say speed, he is impressing me. He is a young kid doing it right! I think he should be a winger but he is impressing me none the less. Last year I hated how slow he looked. First couple of steps. He looks good!
I have been drinking though. Think I will for most of the season. I will still enjoy it though!

Engelland was tripped by Linstrom - had nothing to do with Setoguchi

Not surprised at the loss, but it doesn't feel like they are bringing the same determination as last year. Really don't think they have out worked anybody yet. Too small a sample size, sure, but they need to pick up the PK/PP and their overall game.

Yup we need a bigger sample size. This was 3rd game in 4 nights.

This is Tarasenko's 3rd year and Schwartz' 4th. Think Brodie.

I never said rookies, just young players.
The Flames have Monahan, Brodie, and Gaudreau. Soon to just be Monahan and Brodie.

Yeah, and Brodie and Monahan have been 'slotted in' nicely. Gaudreau is just getting started - what's your point?

Monahan is still facing really easy minutes so he's really not slotting in nicely yet. Brodie is the only one who has excelled so far.
I'm just saying that I'm jealous of their ability to be both a good team while still getting strong performances out of young players. They are built not just to contend, but to sustain their play over many years.

Gaudreau is third in +\- on the team. Granted it is only game three but he is doing fine. The points will come. He had a couple of iffy plays tonight but I have seen similar scary plays by Monahan, etc. I doubt he goes down. If anything, Sven and Ferland will be up soon.

JG doesn't seem to be skating, and his passes have been weak. It looks like his confidence has taken a hit.
Anyways... As others have already said, this result was expected. There will be a lot of growing pains for this team over the next couple seasons.

Flames were out matched 2 min into this game and never got much traction at all for any length of time.

I thought his passes were ok... He seems tired... played better once they spread out his shifts giving him more rest. Confidence is probably taking a bit of a hit.. fanned on at least one shot. Its all a shock to the system. 3 Games in 4 nights. He will be fine.

My bet is he gets a month and if things don't slow down for him he goes down.
He looks like he's having trouble with the lack of time he gets to make decisions. He also looks like he's playing not to get hurt or make mistakes.
I think we'll know in a few weeks what his fate will be. They did the same thing with Monahan last year (protecting him at the start) and it worked out well. I hope it works out well again.
He could use some better players to play with though.

They've been getting outshot quite drastically in all 3 games.
Same thing happened at the start of last year. Hopefully they figure this out soon. Felt sorry for Hiller today. He was left hung out to dry.
