Pretty sure he wouldn't be wearing an A if the coaches and teammates actually thought he was floating, uncaring, disinterested.

People had a problem with Glencross tonight?!?!?
really? veteran guy standing in front of the net all night in an EXHIBITION game...directly responsible for the 1st goal and got the winner in OT
Wasn't he the 1st star of the game too?

What game were you watching? I saw a guy show up for overtime after floating his way through 3 periods.

just as a side note for all posters, playing on a smaller ice surface really benefits a bigger, stronger, slower type of player. The smaller skilled guys don't have as much time or space to work their magic so that's why certain players might have looked a little off. People need to realise that NHL ice is wayyyy bigger than some small town alberta rink

Does anyone have an official boxscore for the game? NHL.com still doesn't have one.

I have to pipe in here about Sieloff and the few posters commenting about how terrible he is.
No, Sieloff isn't playing all that great. Let's keep in mind, a year ago he had a very real possibility of dying from a staph infection and then an allergic reaction to the medication they gave him for the infection. This isn't an exaggeration, his infection was that severe where he it could have killed him had he not gotten proper treatment as fast as he did. It wasn't a separated shoulder or torn knee where he could still work out and keep in a game shape, he was then unable to perform any physical activity for 8 weeks (anything that would cause him to break a sweat) and that was after being immobile for a month between the hospital treatments and his at home treatments. And staph infection treatments aren't just an Advil, it's a drug cocktail that make you feel like crap, usually lose weight as you feel sick and don't eat/vomit and take away all your energy. Chances are even if he did want to do something, he wouldn't have been able to. He lost muscle and weight during this time and he's only been "full" training to make up for it since June-ish.
Also keep in mind, he hasn't seen any in game action at this level as he only got 2 games with Abbotsford before getting the infection. He's never played at the AHL or NHL level before. He is no different then Sam Bennett right now for NHL experience. Fresh out of the OHL if you will as that was the last league he had regular time. He also hasn't generally seen any game action in probably 18 months as the last time he played regularly was April 2013.
So yea, when you want to judge how he's playing, please keep that in mind. He does have high expectations of him and I have no doubt he will reach them, but he's lost development time and has to catch up. We can't expect him to play at an elite level at this point, that's unrealistic.

Extremely consistent, giving the coach a performance he can count on, as that what a coach is looking for; a performance that is going to be there almost every time the coach calls the name. Baertschi has improved in certain aspects of his game, but he does not yet appear to have that level of consistency in his performance that can be counted on to the same level of some of the other prospects.
|
I think he was consistent in this game though. Better results appeared when he played with better players though. I do agree that granlund and gaudreau played better but after watching his shifts for a second time I just don't get the criticism. I watch his game tonight and he seems to be doing everything that management wanted to see improvements in. I don't see him turning pucks over or losing battles along the boards. I can see at least a few of you agree with me. Here's hoping he keeps improving every game in the preseason and earns a spot.
Side note: we knit pick baertschi tonight but I think most would agree he looked better than the top guys from Phoenix tonight... Doan, handzus, etc.

Great post Drury18.
Also everyone should remember he is only 20.
He was able to play in the AHL last year because of his play in the USHL (I believe)

He is just a ####ing goon. He adds nothing too this team other than taking a spot from some more deserving rookie. The sooner we get rid of his kind the better.

That is correct. He was drafted from the USHL so he didn't fall under the CHL/AHL agreement. After he was drafted, he chose to go to the OHL and had no bearing no his AHL eligibility. He only needed to be 18 to go play in the AHL.

I like Sieloff, but he needs a full year in the AHL to learn how to play pro hockey. Full-stop.
