I must be doing pretty good. First, I checked out several "Top 100 Sci Fi Movie" lists, since none of the rest of the style of movies here interest me in any way (I have probably seen 3-4 of the movies in this thread. Maybe). Out of the sci-fi movie lists, there were no movies that I thought "Ah, yes, I wanted to watch that and never got around to it." There were movies I'd not seen, but don't regret/mind that.

Terribly slow pacing, zero character development, and a story that just lulls you to sleep (I literally fell asleep halfway and had to pick it up later).
If you're one of those guys who watches movies for special effects, perhaps you'll like it, but if you're a guy who has to have a good story, it was terrible.

If you want to add the link for the most comprehensive list toward your own taste, I might be able to suggest one or two forgotten gems. I've seen tonnes of sci-fi, and that genre in particular has a way of coming out to great fanfare and then immediately disappearing.
Trackercrowe, have you seen True Romance yet? Seriously should be #1 on your list.
My two shameful omissions to my viewing history : Barry Lyndon (there is no good explanation as to why I haven't seen this), and City of God (built up by friends to the point where I've been subconsciously avoiding it).

Watch the first two on your list. Skip the rest.

Skip the last one. Even though V for Vendetta isn't a stellar film, it's worth checking out.

You're dead to me.
Anyway, my list. I've made a point of catching a lot of classics over the years, so I'm not overly worried about "finishing touches" at this point.
- On the Waterfront
- A Streetcar Named Desire
- High Noon
- La Battaglia Di Algeri (The Battle of Algiers)
Plus Guardians of the Galaxy.
Watched Chinatown finally this year. As expected it hasn't aged that well.

1. The Godfather(s)
No real excuse, just never got around to watching them. I've seen pieces and I saw a scene from Part II with DeNiro and it made me think to myself "Why have I not watched this?" But I turned it off because I wanted to watch them all in order. Still haven't got around to it.
2. A Clockwork Orange
I know the premise and know myself. I will watch it one day, but I know I will have to be in the right mood.
3. Requim for a Dream
See: A Clockwork Orange
4. Raging Bull
Another DeNiro movie I need to see.
5. 2001: A Space Odyssey
I know about Hal. I have think I have a vague knowledge of what the ending is. I love space movies and I need to watch this, just another one where I need to be in the right mood.
HM: Apocalypse Now, Gone with the Wind, Taxi Driver, any Rambo movie.
Recently watched that would have otherwise ended up here:
Blade Runner - Awesome Neo-Noir. I really like stories that have high concept worlds, but keep the story small and grounded within that setting.
Alien - So much tension, I don't think I've ever seen a movie that actually had my heart pounding. I've yet to see any other film that could compare to the fret I felt for the characters throughout the entire movie.
I'm sure there are many more.

Did you watch the directors cut? It's the only version I've seen, but most would tell you that the directors cut is far superior to the theatrical version. Apparently it was dicked around with by the studio quite a bit and the theatrical release ended up being a bit of a mess, not making a lot of sense.

Using IMDBs top 250 list as a guide and ignoring anything before the 1970s:
1. The Schawshank Redemption
2. Some of the Lord of the Rings movies (I am not sure which ones I saw because I zoned out during the ones that I did see).
3. The Green Mile
4. Good Will Hunting
5. All the Harry Potter films

Uh Why? Some of the best movies ever made are in that era. Don't be prejudiced based on when it was made.

I don't disagree and to be honest, I have seen most of the big name movies from before 1970, but there are a few in IMDBs top 50 or so that I have never heard of. I didn't want my top 5 list to have films that I didn't even know existed until 2 hours ago.

Out of IMDB's top 100 list, I've missed:
On the Waterfront
All Quiet on the Western Front
The Third Man
I had no idea that I'd seen that many on the list, plus there are films that I feel don't belong in that list. Of the major releases of recent memory, I've never seen Avatar, and am in no hurry to.

I think of Avatar like I do about Gravity.
Both stories were meh, but technically both were marvelous. And if you didn't get the chance to see it in IMAX, there's no point in watching it. That was the whole reason they were cool.
My dad wanted to see Gravity when it first came out but his lady has Sandra Bullock issues so they didn't see it. And then he ended up watching it on a plane. You might as well not even watch it.

I've gone back to this movie a couple of times hoping something will kick in but it never does. Just not a good movie.

I can see how it would have some appeal when it came out in '82, but as it gets older I can see it getting lost in time........like tears in rain.
I'll show myself out

Blade Runner is interesting on an intellectual level as it makes you think about life and sentience... stuff like that. As a film, it is not overly exciting though and the concept has been repeated and improved on since it came out, so it didn't age well in that regard.
It's like watching old horror movies that at the time terrified the audience and now look silly in comparison to more modern films.

I've seen the Third Man show up on a couple of these lists. My moniker of Harry Lime is from this movie, as an indication of how long I was a lurker on this site before I finally made my account. Such a strange movie, with storytelling techniques that are generally never used in modern films, almost as if writers are expecting the calls of 'rip off' if they attempt anything similar. Or that it's hard to get someone to drop in to a movie with the presence of an Orson Welles.
Also, Avatar is Dances With Wolves in Space.

Well I am glad I waited all these years to watch Blade Runner, as it looks like I'll be seeing it on the big screen.
http://www.cineplex.com/Events/DigitalFilmFest
I look forward to this event every year, but damn they really like pulling out the old Alien/Aliens two-some. Not that it's a bad thing, but I've seen them too many times now.
I will try and see Blade Runner, Dick Tracy, Pan's Labyrinth, Kill Bill, and then possibly Darkman, The Rocketeer, and some of the X-Men movies if there's time.
