Hiller struggled a bit down the stretch and in the postseason. Not sure if it was a confidence thing or not, but there were struggles.

All I hope is that there is real competition. Ramo played well for us last year, and deserves to compete for the number 1 job.

Hiller shouldn't be gifted the spot on previous success.

Didn't he lose a pile to Len Barrie's Golf course development in Victoria?

Somewhere in the ballpark of 8 million I do believe.

Bumping this to point out the twitter account now states its a parody.

@MKiprusoff
Not Miikka Kiprusoff but someone with a little knowledge into the Flames than some reporters do. I did have Calgary guessing for a while.

Are you serious?? Wow you know this by how?

I talked to Mikey a few times already (while he was still playing for the Flames and a few times after he retired). I thought he was a smart guy and very friendly.

Sometimes a good player cannot coach. Most of the time they are trying to compare themselves to the people which is not good. Their expectations is so high. Just look at some of the good coaches in the NHL, most of them are borderline or just an average player in their time. Some never even played in the NHL. Queenville was not a hot shot defenseman in the NHl. He was just an average defenseman but he is very succesful coach in the NHL. Yes there are some exceptions but not a lot.

Should be an interesting battle between Ramo and Hiller. Both have something to prove. I lean towards Ramo though as he is still a little less known. Was a little shaky at the beginning of the season battling injury but once healthy re was more than solid in my mind. Some times spectacular. I want to see more before writing him off.

Seriously though, goaltending hasnt been our biggest problem. Scoring and defense has been. Any goalie in the league on our team and we are still out of the playoffs.

I think Holtby in Washington would agree with this after last years problems being coached by Kolzig.

Treliving says the Flames have found their goalie coach to be announced this upcoming week:
http://www.calgaryherald.com/sports/...medium=twitter

Quote:
For starters, has been on a “thorough” search for a goaltending coach to replace Clint Malarchuk and the GM ays something will be announced in the coming week.

“We’ve got our guy, we’re just working through a few things . . . we should have something forthcoming in the next little while on that,” he said. “I can tell you we talked to people that had lots of experience, younger people. I know it was long, but I guess it was by design. I wanted to turn over as many stones as we could.

“But I’m really excited and comfortable with the decision we made.”

The selected person will oversee the likes of veteran Jonas Hiller, last year’s starter Karri Ramo, and up-and-comer Joni Ortio — Treliving said there were many candidates.

“My feeling is it’ll be someone who can work with our guys, make them better, and not necessarily say, ‘We’re blowing up your style,’ ” he said. “Instead, how do we find out what his strengths are and build towards his strengths?

“We want someone that can be a communicator and a teacher.”
