I completely agree.

I am just saying that no one, other than Flames fans, is going to look at the goalie list of Hiller and Ramo and think that Ramo is the #1. It's understandable, and it isn't just the money.

One of the biggest misconceptions about Kipper is that he wasn't a good communicator. He just didn't like talking to reporters. He pretended for years it was because he wasn't great at speaking English.

Agreed it's not just salaries that has outsiders slotting Hiller at 1, but going by experience is also flawed.
It's been stated that Ortio cannot play our backup because we want him getting games not bench duty. The same applies for Ramo.
We are a rebuilding team. 1a is Ramo's to lose.

People actually think Hiller signed here to be a backup? It's his job to lose, don't kid yourselves.

I don't think this is insinuating that Kipper will be the goalie coach, the tweet is directed/asking the @MKiprusoff twitter account.

There is no way that Kiprusoff Twitter account is real.

Ramo almost has a better chance of losing the backup spot to Ortio than stealing the starting spot from Hiller

They are paying him 4.5 million and letting him pick his goalie coach. He is going to be playing 60 games for us

Surely how they play next season will have an effect on this. Hiller is being paid on his history, but he wasn't great last season. They are pinning some hopes on him returning to form, but if he doesn't, Ramo could take the number 1 spot.

Wanted to add to this:

"Or during his entire first season in the AHL, when partner Hedberg was forced to serve as his translator for Kiprusoff, who also spoke both Swedish and English at the time. So why not speak for himself? Because rookies had to carry all the bags, a task he wasn’t impressed with and managed to avoid by playing dumb all season.

“His English was good enough that he could understand what everybody said but whenever he needed to he would use me as a translator to get away from things he didn’t want to do,” recalls Hedberg with a laugh. “He’d say `no comprende, no hable englais’ and he would give me this look like ‘I can fool these guys all the time.’ It was awesome. He was doing it in such a funny way.”

I've always wondered why Vernon isn't involved at a goalie coach level in the NHL. I think he spends most of his time in Calgary as I use to see him quite a bit at the Glencoe Club with his kids.

I would imagine to be a hockey coach would take take some kind of smarts, and while a great goalie in his prime, he is literally dumber than a hockey stick.

And yes, I do mean literally.

I've only ever had brief exchanges with him so I don't know anything about his level of intelligence.

He came here to get his game and confidence back on track. He knows he's going to get more playing time than with any other team. I'd doubt that he thinks the #1 job is his to lose, but probably knows if he plays well he could end up in that spot.

I've always liked Hiller and at a point in time, I thought he was one of the best goalies in the world. But for some reason, I feel like he'll end up being Roman Turek part two.

While I cannot (and would not if I knew) comment on his intelligence, I always assumed that an old style stack'm pads goalie might not be best suited to coach butterfly.

I understand Vernon is a multi-millionaire based on his real estate developments and other investments. So he likely doesn't need to work another day in his life if he doesn't want to...

Kipper would be the best coach.

"Coach my angles are off. WHat can I do?"

"Get in front of puck."

"Coach, my glove is leaking. How can I fix it?"

"Get in front of puck."

Hiller's stats were pretty good last year. Who says he's outta form ? His coaches hopped on a couple young goalies who were hot at the time and Gibson made Hiller expendable. Hiller is a very good goalie and in no way did he have an " off season" that needs any rebounding from.
