I think Noah Hanifin will be the answer.

agreed, Centres and Wing are now the strength of the organization, it would be nice to round that out with some defenders in rounds 2 and 3. Potential Gems.

ISS has him ranked at 39th according to what I've seen. I'd consider taking him if McKeown, Dougherty and Barbeshev are not on the table at 34 but a better option at 54. If he's not there at 54, I wouldn't be too torn up.

It has always been split over 2 days... last season was done all in one day because the lockout pushed the playoffs so late.

I said Lemieux, but that Russian is kind of tempting.

Anton Karlsson
The Flames are weak on the right side so its time to draft by position.
6 ft 2" 194 lbs.

From the THW War Room
- Eldon MacDonald, THW: A few words on Anton Karlsson:
- Leader – Captain of two Team Sweden U17 teams plus the 2013 WJC U18 and the 2013 Ivan Hlinka.
- Deadly on the rush – His ability to make top notch plays at high speed make him especially deadly on the rush.
- High-end skills – Explosive skater, high-end passer, soft hands around the net, elite wrister and a killer one-timer.
- Tough to play against – Excels at going to the net, undaunted physically, tenacious, solid checker; loves to roil the opposition and put them off their game.

Quote:
NHL Director of European Scouting, Goran Stubb:
"He likes to play physical and he gives it everything he has on every shift. He was one of the few 17-year-old players to make the World Junior team and was pretty good, he worked hard every shift.”
|
Played Jr hockey in Sweden last year. 28 games - 12 goals - 10 assists - 88 PIM
Just the type of player that Burke loves.

I'd like them to make our next 2 or 3 picks Dmen. Grab a goalie too.

McKeown ticks off too many boxes. Right shot, excellent vision and composure, good point shot on PP, friend and teammate of Bennett...

I actually think this draft is deeper then some give credit for. Not with pure skill but defiantly lots of role players.

Karlsson is an interesting one - he started the season ranked as a mid-first round pick on most lists. By the end of the season a lot of people had him in the third round. So the question is: do you take a chance that he just had a poor season and really is a first round talent or see him as a guy who was overrated and is dropping for a reason?

In hindsight, I'm happy the Flames didn't trade up back into the second round (or up from 4th). Lots of quality guys left starting tomorrow - including guys I wanted. Sitting at 34, 54 and 64 (or whatever) makes me very excited.
If the Flames can get two of McKeown, Dougherty, MacInnis, Glover, Smith and Lemieux at 34 and 54, that'll be great.

I like MacInnis a lot, but honestly, gravy after getting Bennett for me and ready to trust scouting. I think we added a real star in this draft already.

Totally agree. We have more than enough forward prospects to be getting along with for the time being, we really need to be picking D-men with at least 3 of the next 4 picks, maybe snagging a RW like Smith if he is still available at 54 or maybe even in the 3rd round.
