They should get Brad Pitt, he did a great job with that baseball team.

Rutherford admits he will most likely only be GM for 2-3 years and then have one of the assistant GMs take over.
He is basically grooming Botterill to take over.

I read a blog in ESPN after it was announced that Shero was fired that Blysma was essentially done and they only were holding on to him to keep him from getting hired by another team insinuating there was some spite involved. Sounds like the Penguins are kind of a mess internally. I'm sure he will be interviewing with the Panthers and Canucks shortly.

@penguins say they didn't offer the GM position to anyone before Rutherford.

I doubt it makes any difference either way.
How many coaches have been hired in the last three weeks? Trotz in Washington, and that's it. Would Bylsma likely have been hired for that job if he was available? I'd guess no.

With the new management team in Calgary, I feel more positive about the direction the Flames are going than the Penguins.

To me Pierre was smart if he asked for a fiver, most of the decisions you make on draft day are barely blooming at year three.

That's true but I feel that the Penguins owners are looking for immediate results on the ice with Crosby and Malkin both in their primes. I simply have a hard time believing McGuire would turn down 3 years when the alternative (because no other team is likely ever going to offer him a GM job) is an NBC gig that would be waiting for him if he got fired in three years.

It's already well established he is an idiot. This just ices the cake.
But as a former coach at this level being full of himself then, it's no surprise nothing has changed and he just 'out-negotiated' himself out of the league.
If I was a coach being interviewed on the bench by him, it would be awfully tempting to punk the know it all fanboy punk.

His name comes up every now and then for GM vacancies. He's holding out for what he thinks is the right situation if this is, in fact, true. If he's going to be a GM, I'm sure he wants the ability to build a franchise the right way, not with some ridiculous 3-year mandate.
Pierre has a sweet gig at NBC, clearly loves what he does, and he can afford to be patient. More power to him.

The same Pierre McGuire who's never seriously been brought up as a GM candidate until this crazy idea from Mario? I don't recall his name being brought up every now and then except maybe by internet posters.
Yeah ... he can totally afford to be patient.

I find that hard to believe.
For one thing, if an organization wants to attract quality candidates, they don't treat people that way.
For another, he's still under contract with Pittsburgh. Whether he's still the head coach or not, he can't take another job in another organization without their permission anyway.

He's doing what he loves and sucks at it, having a 'sweet gig.' Not taking anything away from that and don't see how it comes into play here.
He applied for a job that he was interviewed twice for. He wanted more and tried for more than he could chew on, and than any team would find paletable. His mojo just cost himself a job, now if he's lucky he gets an Islanders or Something Special job up north for a year or two, if he's lucky.
The punk was punked because he punked himself. Serves him right.
