Oh, you meant Boyle. I thought we were talking about Cammy there. Nevertheless, zero chance Boyle would re-sign in Edmonton so they probably figure it would be a wasted pick. (Not that they do anything with those picks anyway. Something to do with that No Good thing.)

I could see the Islanders making a push for first overall. They have the assets to make it happen and it gives them an NHL-ready player for their "win now" mode.

I wonder how much of an added benefit playing in Barclay's center is going to have for the Isles this off season. Brooklyn is Brooklyn after all.

I'm pretty sure the 3rd came from a drop of a few spots in the 1st of that draft and Leopold was out the door anyways. So pretty much it was waiting a few spots to draft Erixon...unless Sutter wanted Josefson, Moore, or Schroeder.

Thanks, I remembered Leopold was involved as well.. things that far back are a little fuzzy. Probably killed a few brain cells celebrating that acquisition too.. Dammit

Why would the Islanders care one way or the other whether the Flames draft Sam Reinhart?

Andy Strickland @andystrickland
There appears to be a very slim to no chance Boyle signs with the #Isles. At this stage of career he wants to play for contender. #NHL

To bad for the Isles. I could see them making playoffs with a couple of acquisitions . They already brought in the goalie. But a contender they are not.

Say what you will about the Islanders, at least they're trying.

The Oilers are still standing around like idiots getting repeatedly kicked in the balls.

That sucks for them. Hopefully they can trade his rights to another team and replace the draft pick they wasted getting him.

I guess it depends on how much you value a 5th round pick because this really was a shot in the dark as it's a major stretch for a veteran to leave a perennial good team for a perennial bad team for what is probably his last contract. That just doesn't happen very often especially when the player will be in demand on the free agent market.

Damn, I was hoping he would sign with them.
I don't think its a long shot that Vanek goes back to play with Johnny T, with an improved defense the Islanders could be respectable next season.
