Taking Ritchie at #4 is not a good idea. Taking him with a pick acquired in a trade is better. However, I wouldn't want to miss out on one of the Sams, or if Ekblad slides.
Maybe Burke is planting these statements in case the Flames do a trade down, should their guys go 1, 2, 3?
As for the playoffs bit...The Flames have a lot of teams they have to beat to get just to 8th. The west is too stacked to make a run now, unless a miraculous set of circumstances comes into play

The way Burke made it sound... Ekblad is who the teams are trying to trade up to #1 to get... He also said "Ekblad will play 20 years"

We have a trade to announce Calgary trades pick #4 to Anaheim for picks #10 and #24 of this draft. Anaheim selects Leon Draisatl, The Flames select Nik Ritchie and Jack Dougherty. Testosterone,Pugnacity,Truccul....

Final on Burke. #Flames "made the call to Florida about #1." he didn't seem overly optimistic IMO

A parade?
A Stanley Cup parade. Really, every organization should be trying to have a parade. Some plan them far in advance, like Toronto.

Ryan Leslie @theryanleslie
For context on Burke referring to Bennett, Ritchie etc it was about best player vs org need. Not tipping hand on who Flames will take.

Ritchie haters can relax a little

I thought he was talking about a pride parade.

I was all "doesn't Calgary already have one?"

Ritchie is definitely the most "Burke" player in the draft. I thought we would take him at 5, before the Islanders climbed over us.

There are about 15-20 really good defensemen that are rated in the 25-70 range that would definitely be worth picking (half or more are better prospects than Wotherspoon and Sieloff for quality comparisons)

Is he a "Treliving" or "Button" player? That probably matter's more.
