The last time I went was for a car battery.
Sadly, they carry good batteries (Johnson Controls) and their prices are awesome.
Shoving a 30lbs. car battery inch by inch across the floor during your 15 minutes in line to pay makes you wonder if it was all worth it.

My wife loves Costco. I detest it.
We sometimes will rent a house or condo for vacations in Hawaii, etc. These stays are for 5-10 days max. The first thing she wants to do is hit Costco for groceries. WTF? Why do I want to buy a years supply of Munchies, to just throw it out in 6 days?
Yum yum chicken, tried it once, my son loves it for some reason. The flavors were ok, but it seems to be 'smashed' into random pieces, rather than the standard drumstick, thigh, etc. Reminded me of the work camps in Sudan, where I think they cut up chickens with a sledge hammer.

They have carts at Costco. No need to drag things across the floor.

Personally, I do the backwards commute. Live in Inglewood and commute to Airdrie and my drive is 22 minutes both ways. There is nothing better then seeing all the traffic lined up heading into Calgary with me zipping along at 115km/h and vise versa on the way home. I spend enough time in Airdrie, and get very frustrated with the whole Yankee Valley train track debacle intersection. Living close to DT is great and working in Airdrie is great. Yet I would never live in Airdrie, zero appeal.

No issue with the town itself other than it doesn't have any redeeming qualities that would get a visit out of me (I will take a drive out to Cochrane once in a while). If you live and work there and enjoy it, awesome!
|
You must hate all those deadbeat people that come into Calgary every summer and destroy your streets while partying at the stampede? Costing you money by draining the resources like ems and police.
How can you really believe that the couple thousand people coming from Airdrie "rape" your municipal infrastructure? None of us "pariah" every spend our money in Calgary do we? It all just stays in Airdrie, we don't spend money in restaurants, bars, malls, attractions.
Deerfoot Trail which would be the feeder that most of us "pariah" use, is maintained by the provincial government, not out of your precious municipal budget.

I live in Calgary but the whole argument of "raping our municipal resources" is absolutely laughable. Pretty sure Airdrie is not the only outskirt town outside a large city. Pretty sure they pay federal and provincial tax as well.
Also... I wonder how many of you that are ripping Airdrie actually own your property. For some people it's more financially viable and affordable way to own a property. To put yourself on a pedestal and enter a thread bashing Airdrie and the people within it is pretty weak.

Have you ever driven on Stoney Trail? The slow traffic usually runs about 10-15 over the limit. In the fast lane if you`re not doing 130 somebody is on your bumper. Same as Deerfoot except for those lovely spots between 64th and Blackfoot where everyone goes 50. Simple mathing tells me that if I`m doing 20% faster than the speed limit I would arrive at my destination 20% sooner. Cutting 4 minutes off of a 34 minute commute seems pretty reasonable.

Was just about to say the same thing. Anyone who actually thinks you run into rush hour traffic on Stoney Trail has obviously never used it.

I've lived in Airdrie for 25 years now. Moved here when it had a population of around 12,000 people. Have seen it grow to over 50,000. Its a fantastic little city and with CrossIron/Costco just five minutes away I find that I rarely go into Calgary at all these days.
