What impressed me the most about Monahan's season is the growth his game showed. His skating got stronger and after the Olympic break he was a completely different player out there. More aware and just a better hockey player. The kid really impressed in his rookie year.

In his last game, even though he didn't score, I thought he played his most dominating game. It's like Gaudreau's presence on the bench made him think 'alright son, this is how we complete in the NHL.'

Taking the body, getting a break-away, setting up the play all over the ice; next season he's going to be leading by example which is a good sign that his confidence & development are exactly where they need to be.

In the last 2 months, Monahan's zone starts got harder and harder, and his underlying stats didnt dip too terribly.

That is positive.

I think only that one against the Hurricanes, but I don't even count that one as a slapshot.

If your wrist shot is that accurate and good, I don't see why you'd change that.

I would like to see him take a slapper during a power play or something, maybe we haven't seen all of Sean.

One of my favorite things about this kid is he doesn't have to make highlights with deking or doing anything fancy of some sort (that can be up to Johnny I suppose ). He's just....there. Has good hockey IQ because at the most part, he knows where the puck is going.

And like a few of you guys are mentioning, I agree that he played like a different player after the Olympic break (in a good way).

I kind of forgot how good a shot he has. In my head, he had a lot of goals where he was banging in garbage, but that's obviously not the case. So quick and accurate.
Also, he does a really good job of opening himself up for passes, both by finding open ice, and with his body and stick position.

Really hope Sven plays well for Abbotsford, and can make it back up next year at some point, because he looked good in the start of the video (although most people do in highlight packages.)

A nose for the soft areas, determination to get to the front of the net, patience to wait when he has time...Even if defenses key in on him next year, he's shown a number of tools to put the puck into the back of the net.

I don't think since Moss and Iginla that we've had a player in the front of the net scoring as consistently as Monahan.

I posted this about Monahan about this time last year before the draft. Thought his game would translate really well to the NHL because of his style of play, particularly the simple and efficient but deadly accurate shot he has. Most players seem to shoot toward the net and hope something good happens - Monahan seems to actually aim very intently and hit that spot - and he is damn good at it.

Can't ask for much more out of his rookie season. Very glad we ended up with him. Thanks for the video AC - that must be a lot of work. It's appreciated.

Said it in the Monahan thread: kid is going to score 50 in this league. Doubt me or hedge your expectations all you want, but this is happening.
