That being said, half way through the season I wasn't on the Gaudreau bandwagon. But he kept it up the whole year and now I feel like he's the real deal -- Calgary could have something really special on their hands and a draft steal. It's just at this point, size is still an issue. It will be an issue until he can disprove it, there's just no getting around it.

Three lightest NHL players per league rosters:
1. Johnny Gaudreau, Cal, 150 lbs
2. Paul Byron, Cal, 153 lbs
3. Calle Jarnkrok, Nsh, 156 lbs

2 of them are already having success at the NHL level. I'd argue that Gaudreau has more skill than both of them combined. And I'm a big fan of Jankrok.

Johnny'll do just fine. He'll get a full summer with Hesketh and slap on another 10-15 pounds and everything will be all sunshine and rainbows.

To be fair to HF, they also have Gaudreau as the 19th best prospect not in the NHL.

The forward led the nation in goals and points during the regular season as part of one of the nation's most lethal top lines with Kevin Hayes (CHI) and Bill Arnold (CGY). His consistency for Boston College during the regular season was remarkable as he was held scoreless just twice during the regular season and Hockey East tournament. Sublime skills and explosive offensive ability define Gaudreau's game, but even without the puck, he plays with a determination that should serve him well when he eventually begins his development at the professional level.

I am as hopeful as the next guy on this site that Jhonny becomes a 80+ point elite 20 something yr old, but I cant take any more of these comparisons.

Jaden Schwartz seems like a decent comparable. They were both drafted out of the ushl. Schwartz put up slightly better numbers.

In the first two college seasons they put up comparable numbers. Edge to Gaudreau in the second season.

Schwartz left after his second season which is where pretty much every comparable to Gaudreau breaks down. Almost every other guy that is killing college leaves after year two so Gaudreaus third year is pretty unique.

It wouldn't surprise me to see him become a 50-60 point winger right away. I will honestly be a little surprised if he becomes a superstar just because St.Louis is the only one in the last generation to overcome that kind of size disadvantage. Anything is possible though I suppose.

He is small, but I trust Burke to put sufficient beef in the lineup to keep our guys safe.

When there was some fear that he might not sign, I used his size to rationalize why trading him might not be so bad (although worse than keeping him).Now that he is here though, I am stoked. I hope he gets a point tonight. But I'll be happy if he just gets the Nucks chasing him around.

Because he's a Flames prospect. Also he is small. But the talent grade should be at least an 8 if these people have eyes.

I still think he wouldn't go top 3 just based on his size. It's still a huge question and i'm confident he pans out in the NHL but its far from a sure thing.

In relation to this years draft? Maybe, but I think you may find that you'll see a lot of people directly relate Gaudreau to Ehlers, so top ten. could go anywhere from 3-10. My guess is Ehlers goes 6.

After last night it is obvious that Gaudreau has talent, no one should deny that. However to say that he has more skill and hockey IQ than a point per game NHL All Star who has two Stanley Cup championships, a Conn Smythe Trophy, and has been a contributor on two Olympic teams, helping one win a Silver medal... that is one of the dumbest comments regarding where he is at right now. At the same age Kane put up 88 points in the regular season and 28 points in the playoffs.

While he could be as good someday, it is still a long shot at best.

At the same age, Kane put up 70 points in the regular season and 14 points in the playoffs. You're thinking of the year after.

Two months from now this team is going to be so loaded with great prospects and young players it's scary... Monahan, Brodie, colborne, backlund, baertschi, gaudreau, poirier, wotherspoon, granlund, Reinhart, knight, klimchuk, sieloff, jankowski... And that's not even counting the guys the flames will draft this year!

Oilers have been doing the one shot draft pick for years where they seem to rely only in their first pick and that's all they can barely turn into an NHLer. The flames keep finding gems like Wotherspoon, granlund, Brodie, and gaudreau in the later rounds and are letting them develop into great players.

Gaudreau is on Kane's level? Yeesh. He's a great prospect but come on guys, lets tamper our expectations a bit.
