Problem solved, and yes, Chris Butler is a problem.

Butler is not a problem. Butler has been perfectly fine as a bottom pairing guy so far this season. So much unnecessary hate on this guy.

Didn't Burke say any UFA not re-signed by the deadline would be traded?
Didn't he also say they would only re-sign 2-3 UFA's? - Russell and Stajan so far..
Also is Brodie not in the just about untouchable category?
The way I see it:
Untouchables: Monahan, Gio
Only for an amazing offer that is unlikely to ever happen: Brodie, Russell, Backlund, Smid
Available for right price: Everyone else
Stempniak will probably be the first one traded tomorrow
Cammalleri will be traded Wednesday

The only time his play turns to poo is when he's eating Gio/Brodie worthy minutes.

I honestly think Brodie should be on the untouchable list too. Defenseman are really hard to develop, and usually hit their prime their mid 20's. Brodie is already doing that at such an early age, and in my opinion should stay with us. Think about it, once Gio is older, Brodie will be in his mid/late 20's and will be as good as ever. We don't need to trade him.
Backlund is another one that I would prefer staying on the team. Plays a good 2-way game, and can go on the wing when needed to.

Butler - 2nd
Cammelleri - 2nd round pick in 2014 and '15
SOB - 5th
Stemp - Prospect and 4th
Calgary stockpiles for a chance to move up at the draft.

Feaster did; it was one of his better moves.

I have a really bad feeling that not one move will be made by the Flames until draft day. I hope to all the hockey gods I am wrong, but there you have it.

Butler is one of the top defenseman in the league with blocked shots. Believe it or not, but he is contributing defensively. Would rather trade Wideman than him.
In fact, both him and Smid are in the top 5 in blocked shots. I don't want to trade either one of them.

I agree it was a solid move by Feaster.
I would be a lot more confident that Brodie would remain a Flame throughout this process if Burke had been the one to have signed him to this contract. Does Burke think there's enough room in the defensive corps for both Russell and Brodie?

Me too, he'll become a star elsewhere and Burke will wonder why he's out of work ala Button/Gilbert

Anyone think Smid will move? I know we just got him, but it was Feaster to bring him here.
I'd love to see Cammy go for Drouin or Smith-Pelley, but I doubt either will happen.
Also I wonder if Burke would try to make a move for Spezza. He could be our #1 Centre for sure. Need some veteran leadership, he wouldn't be the worst move I don't think.

Gaudreau gets traded away first. CP forums crash.

I bet Butler gets re-signed to an extension and this board goes nuts.

Trading of unrestricted free agents who are going to leave for free makes sense. No reason to keep guys we won't be signing h and get something in return. Trading butler for a 3rd might not help us today but if it nets a asset back why not?
