Good trade for the Sabres. Vanek is the more dynamic player and he may be deadly with Tavares, but Moulson, a 1st and a 2nd is a great return.

Regier is awesome at getting a return for his stars.

Last four seasons:

Moulson: GP: 211 G: 88 A: 87 P : 175

Vanek: GP: 209 G: 82 A: 102 P: 184

Similar production, will be interesting to see how much Moulson drops off without Tavares. Risky move trading a guy he had such great chemistry with though.

so assuming Vanek is worth an extra 10% production this year than Moulson + a 1st and a 2nd, it's not that big

I could see Cammy getting a late 1st or a 2nd at the deadline if he is playing well
Yeah, probably, and he likely won't re-sign in Buffalo either. So the Sabres basically just got a 1st and 2nd to save 4 million dollars in salary pro-rated until the end of the year.

I think the deal slightly favours the sabers. They get 2 top 60 picks plus they can flip moulson at the deal line for more picks/prospects.

I like it from both sides. The islanders have to make attempts to become a contender with Tavares. You can't be in rebuilding mode forever. They'll dangle the pending Brooklyn move and attention he could potentially get in a giant market and vanek will sign.

Good trade for both teams. Sabres have a lot of potential, and keep picking up multiple first rounders every year, but none of them have proven a whole lot recently. Eventually their fans might get sick of that, but I guess it's better than to end up getting nothing for Vanek, Pominville, and Gaustad.

Good deal for buffalo. Islanders need to re-sign babel and also move up in the standings for this trade to be worth it... Right now, the islanders are sitting at the 10th overall pick in 2014.

We won't. The idea that players are worth more at the deadline is largely a myth. Unless a team is right up against the cap, they'd give up more for a full season of Cammalleri (or Vanek, or any other guy who could contribute) than they would for a month or two of him.

This is a great deal for Buffalo, but could work out for the Islanders as well if they think they have a chance to make some noise this year and/or they can re-sign Vanek.

yeah, will be interesting. Moulsons numbers look really good but playing with Tavares has surely inflated those numbers. Vanek had Hodgson ... we'll see how those numbers will change now that they get new centers. Vanek had his best years with capable centers like Roy ... don't know what he can do alongside Tavares. But he was on pace for 43 in the lockout-shortened season, so I won't be shocked if he reaches that kind of goal total with Tavares.

too bad Streit isn't on the team any more ... with the way Vanek loves to crash the crease and deflect shots, I bet that would have worked brilliantly on the PP.

Vanek is a stud. Good trade for the Islanders.

It's just refreshing to see the Islanders stop hiding behind high first round picks as an acceptable reason for a mediocer season. Not saying they win this trade, but it is a complete 180 to how they have approched building their team over the past decade.

If they can't sign Vanek, they still have time to trade him again.

I feel like Vanek is a guy who can create offense and Moulson is a passenger on Tavares' wing. Big upgrade imo, especially if Vanek re-signs.

Hope for the Islanders sake that the rumours that Vanek wants to sign with Minny are not true.

Islanders need to get him re-signed or they just got bent. Granted they have had players that went to the Island kicking and screaming and ended up loving it, so i don't see Vanek being a problem.

As for posters comparing Cammi to Vanek....... not even close.

So little back? He's UFA. Great return.

I guess since most people on here are from the west they don't see much of the eastern teams, Moulson is one of the most one dimensional players, complete product of Tavares.

Moulson is UFA at the end of season also. Look for Buffalo to probably trade him at the deadline. Have to think they can get at least another 2nd round pick.
