Read Backlund's CP Poll for a laugh: http://forum.calgarypuck.com/poll.ph...lts&pollid=790
One poster got his totals right, Check the 16 who said he was hitting 61+ points! (Maybe they mis-read the poll believing it was his last 3 seasons combined, but either way - still wrong).

Good deal. I really like his attitude and hope he can finally put together a full injury-free season.

What are reasonable expectations for Backlund? Is 15-20 goals to low?

Seems pretty reasonable to me given how much play time he should get this year (if healthy).

I think that 15-20 goals is reasonable, as would be 25-30 assists. Hopefully he takes a big step forward production wise (60+ points) given more opportunity this year, but that would be a pleasant surprise more than fulfilling expectations.
Gotta credit Feaster, this is as close to an ideal contract as it gets.

This year? Seems like a reasonable guess... depending on how he's used by Hartley. If he's made to do the heavylifting it'll be harder but if he get's quality icetime and reasonable circumstances that seems very acheivable (maybe even low).

That's a pretty sweet cap number for a guy who lead the team in Corsi. (Top defender? Brodie.)

great young upcoming player signed to a very good deal for the Flames. Even moon must like this deal because he has not posted in this thread.

If he gets the top line/top PP minutes I think he could get to 20 goals.
He seems similar to Matt Stajan in TO where he could get points if given minutes on a bad team and someone has to get points.
I think a season of 15-20-35 if he is playing 2nd line/2nd unit PP would be about what I would expect.
But so tough to say with the team we are going in with what will happen.

Very good signing. As Parallex and others have said, it beings him to one year before being a UFA.
That gives him and the Flames two years to determine what kind of player he can be, and then put the appropriate contract in place (or move him if he isn't going to be in the plans)

If you are a believer in advanced stats, this is a huge bargain. I thought it was going to be closer to double this.
Hopefully Backlund stays healthy and continues to increase his offence.

If he were a stock I'd rate him to outperform at that price. Pretty great price for someone potentially on the cusp.

I hate to be the negative nancy in this thread, but I disagree with that. He's 24 and has 62 points in the NHL. Had he filed for arbitration he could not have hoped for more than this.
Don't get me wrong, I think it's a good deal for everyone, and I hope Backlund breaks out like we expect him to. But tangibly there's not much to suggest he's worth more than this contract. When you start looking at players signed as RFAs with numbers comparable to Backlund there's far more making under 1.5M than over it. Maybe Backlund has more potential and promise than those player but arbitration ends up being far more numbers based than expectation based.

Wow! Less A.A.V then butler....Feaster go home, you're drunk. Great deal for the flames just doesn't make sense to pay butler more. Frustrating

Faaaaantastic deal!! Good job Feaster, and thank you Backlund for taking a ''hometown'' discount! I would have been happy with 2 mil, but this just goes to show how much Mikael wants to be here. I'd love nothing more then to see him rip it up the next 2 years, then cash in big time. What a great deal.

Thats fair. I see it more of a hometown discount as he wants to be here. Loves the city, always has and always will I think. He's the kind of guy I feel will always take less to play where he wants. As long as it's a good fit for both the Flames and him, He'll be a Flame for a very long time.
