Nice job by horton's agent to get his client a term like that when he's a few bad hits away from retirement.

Horton decided to cash in. I guess he has his cup.

JD must have whispered sweet nothings about being the franchise player to him.

I asked new #CBJ forward Nathan Horton why he chose number 8: "Because if you turn it sideways, it means forever."

Horton out 4 to 6 months after shoulder surgery.

Can't believe he got that contract when Columbus pretty much knew this was coming. Shoulders aren't the easiest injuries to recover from.

His injury history should be fairly irrelevant. With these deals capped by the CBA, insurance shouldn't be balking at covering any deals. Horton may face higher premiums, but if he's gone for any length of time, it's not like the Jackets will have to a) pay him out of pocket or b) have him counting negatively against the cap.

He's also well under 35 so he can retire at any point and let them off the hook.

They overpayed, yes, but that's what teams at that stage of their development need to do to land a legitimate top 6 forward from a Stanley Cup contender.
