Why does this franchise have a pathological aversion to building through the draft?

The only thing he is doing, if this is true, is telling the fan base that ownership does not have the patience for a long rebuild.
Plus if you look at his trade history it does not exactly light the world on fire.

There is speculation that Seguin's injury in the playoffs is a chronic hip condition. I would personally pass based on that uncertainty. But without that information I would be with you 100%

I don't think we trade it.

If he can manage to get Seguin for the 6th pick I'm all for it. Rather have a 21 year old who can step in as a #1 centre than a prospect who might develop into one.

Better to get a sure thing, then someone like Nichushkin, Monahan, or Lindholm who may or may not be at Seguin's level.
Surprised so many people are against trading for Seguin though, he's only one a half years older than Monahan, and already has more Cups that the entire Flames team combined.

Seguin is 21, not 20.

On the other hand the Flames should not be interested in Matt Read, unless you can get him for a third rounder, or a lesser prospect. Decent player, but not the type of guy you'd open up the vault to acquire (he's also a pending UFA).

Like I said before, these picks are burning a hole in Feaster's pockets. This team simply cannot commit to rebuilding the right way. Sure it may not happen and they may keep the pick but IMO the 6th pick shouldn't be on the table for anything but moving up in this draft. It's almost like the Flames are trying to outdo Edmonton in being the attention whores of the draft. I hate that management of this team. I hate it.

Sure, but Boston is going to want more than the #6 considering the money and time they have put into him. Its not like he has been a bust and you are getting him for .50 on the dollar.

Seguin costs 5.75 million dollars though next season.
Nichanholm will be cost about 1 million in cap.
Go sign Vincent Lecavalier 3 years 21 million dollars or Bozak for 5 million a year for 3 years. Once Nichanholm's EL deal is done trade off or let the other guy go and there you go. You get the same impact on the team for the time being that Seguin would bring you and you don't f your self over long term.

Someone said 20 earlier, doesn't make a huge difference though. It all likelihood Seguin will be the far better player than anyone available at #6.
Hockey Buzz article about the Flames interest in Seguin, Reed, Schneider, etc.

People need to calm down. The question was probably put to Feaster along the lines of "what would it take for you to trade the 6th pick" and he gave an answer that it would probably take a 1st line center to top defenceman that is younger, i.e. Seguin or Pietrangelo type of player. If he could get this type of player I would be all for trading the pick.

Agreed, we would have to sweeten the pot. I'm not saying to sell the farm but people on here who are saying the #6 pick is more valuable that Seguin are crazy.

I think people are reaction g to having a crappy GM.
If we had a competent GM then I wouldn't be nearly as worried about the rumours we are hearing.
