RT @DarrenDreger: Visors will be grandfathered in. #Hybrid icing tested in NHL preseason. Shallower nets to be used next season. All subject to board approval
Crap, I'm a beer league goalie and now wrap-arounds will be quicker...
Are they going to police how guys wear the visors? Example would be Kronwall from Detroit, he wears one but it's tilted so far up I don't think it even covers his eyes...but if it rains at the rink at least his beak won't get wet.
The way Carl Hagelin wears his visor would make this rule change useless as well

It will be years before the majority of rinks in this city are replaced with shallower nets. As a fellow goalie and ref, I'm positive some community rinks have their original nets
I imagine that the tough guys of the NHL will still go without visors. As a fan I'm fine with this being grandfathered in to protect their eyes. They should do away with the starting a fight with a visor on since pretty much everyone will be wearing them. It should become an obsolete penalty JMO.
I just hope the visors don't start getting ridiculous like goalie equipment has become in which the get bigger every few season until they start looking like safety shields.
Grandfathers have a difficult enough time keeping up in today's NHL. But now the remaining baby boomers in the players ranks are expected to have the moxie to take puck and sticks in the face, while those young wimpy Generation Y players get the protection of plastic shields.
Sigh, kids today. They just don't have the gumption to spit out some teeth or blink out an eyeball and then finish their shift . . .

If that happens fighting is gone.
I don't know...you could throw some tridents and nets on the ice and go old school coliseum.

Using Construction as a reference, should workers be required to wear safety gear such as safety glasses, harnesses, steel toed boots?
Depends on the situation, for instance when working in -30 C weather , safety glasses can be a hindrance due to fogging and be bigger safety issue than not wearing any , depending on what task is being done.
There should be some degree of common sense involved, not just uniform regulations.
How is this different from the helmet, goal mask, comments like yours are easy to make when you have no skin in the game.
Hey, I'm just stating my opinion.
Why don't they just make them wear a full face shield? Then no one will ever get injured.
I might be the minority, but when I played hockey, I didn't like my visor and if I made it to the show, I would've went without it. I guess, I just enjoy the old fashion portion of the game and this is just another reminder of how much things have changed.

Oh well.
This is the same backwards old timey thinking that football fans had when they made players wear full cages as well. Or in racing when Earnhart died and everyone was made to wear whiplash harnesses or install safer barriers. Point is the game is faster, the shots are harder and there is less time to react to situations. It's only natural that protection be mandated to improve player safety. It's progression in a positive direction.
I don't see this as a "pansification" as much as I see it as evolution.

Yeah maybe they should, or is the point of sport injury....?
Would a full shield wreck your enjoyment of the game. Would a pretty goal scored while wearing a full shield be any less pretty, a big hit any less big?
