stick work will get worse. That will be much better then an unnecessary eye injury but none the less the respect level will dip even lower then it is a the stick will continue to rise
Man we need the handcuffs off the enforcers bad

The term comes from the American Civil war where post-war voting rules didn't apply to people who had grandfathers that had voted before the war.
It terms of law and policy, it is very commonly used in English to mean that new rules do not affect individuals who were subject to different rules prior to the new rule brought into place but going forward, all new individuals must abide by it. It's a way to transition in a new policy without angering the older base of that group.
American gun laws for example, are often grandfathered in to appease the old gun owners so that they don't protest against the new restrictions (so the law can be passed) while new gun owners no-longer have the same privileges. For example, somebody who purchased a fully automatic assault rifle before 1986 can keep it but new buyers are restricted from purchasing them.

I can't see it getting worse. More than 2/3 of the players already have visors, so it isn't like suddenly everybody is going to flail their sticks around.

Disagree completely....its way to popular with the majority of fans.
In fact, I suggest that once more facial protection is implemented, sticks and whatnot will come up to the head area more often, leading to more fighting than we have seen in many years.
If they ban fighting, the game will become viscious in so many ways that people will wish for the "old ways" of solving on ice discretions.

I've seen 10 years, 15 years mentioned in this thread...
I think it will take a lot less time to have the last guy in the league without a visor. I'm guessing under 5 years.
Lots of guys have switched on their own anyways.
Anyone know the % differential between visor and non-visor?
I'm guessing its probably 75% visor to 25% non-visor these days, if not more...

Are they going to police how guys wear the visors? Example would be Kronwall from Detroit, he wears one but it's tilted so far up I don't think it even covers his eyes...but if it rains at the rink at least his beak won't get wet.

Good. Like playing with/without helmets back in the day this one was long overdue.

I dunno. Some of the younger people might put them on. Kassian maybe? He seems like that type of idiot.

If guys want to be stupid about wearing visors, that's on them. It would take the majority of them ten games to get used to wearing one, and they'd be good for the rest of their careers, and the odds of a serious career ending eye injury would be dramatically reduced.
All these guys seem to play just fine in international events when wearing one anyway, I'm not sure why this has taken so long. And I know there's a certain element of machismo that goes along with this, but that's a stupid cop out of an explanation. Go tell football players they're p*ssies for wearing cages in a sport that doesn't feature a small, hard to see object travelling at 90 miles an hour and prone to randomly changing direction.
I know if I were the owner who spent 98 million on Ryan Suter, I would hope the least he could do is throw on 98 bucks worth of the most advanced, lightweight invisible plastic he could find to increase his chances of staying healthy enough to collect on that 98 million.

There should be a rule that even if you are visorless now, if for any reason you put one on later (e.g. got hit in the eye), then you cannot remove it for the rest of your NHL career.
