Shaky Smithson was probably cut on the play where he tried to one hand grab a bouncing punt and ended up turning the ball over.

Well it's not like you pick up .1 in your 40 time for every 10lbs you lose. Size and physicality are what make him valuable, at 205 that value decreases. DE's are aware of him out there because he can destroy them on the edge, if he's 210 those guys aren't as concerned.

It's not the 40 time, it's being lighter on your feet and being able to beat a DB off the line. Sure linemen are certainly aware of him but if you've ever played DL then you're aware of any slotback cracking down on you. I just feel he would be better by being a little quicker and not needing to push off defenders to create separation. As a receiver, that extra weight doesn't mean a whole lot... Unless the Stamps plan on using him as a TE or a slot lined up close to the line and he'll be asked to block. In that case carrying the extra pounds would be helpful.

EDIT: To be fair to Lewis, he's an athletic freak. The things he can do on the field are crazy for his weight. I just feel he could be better

That's exactly where he has been playing and has been a huge part of blocking schemes l.

I guess I haven't noticed him enough close to the line. Last year St Pierre or Cote (is Cote around this year?) was in that role more often than not. Lewis was mostly lined up as a regular slotback where that weight is unnecessary.

(Not that I pay special attention to the receivers or anything. When I watch the Stamps I usually just watch the QBs and the DBs)

Stamps up 14-7 at the half. Shawn Lemon had three sacks on Durant.

Per this report: http://www.calgaryherald.com/sports/...390/story.html

Tate played better but his numbers were still pretty average (9-21, 107 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT in the first half); apparently there were some underthrown balls and a few drops.

Glenn (4-5, 39) and BLM (4-4, 41) played in the second half; looks like Perriloux was in for a series or two as well (1-3, 14).

Dickenson and Huff saying the right things in supporting Tate as the #1; so long as he stays healthy and wins football games, he'll stay the starter.

Interesting to see how much time, if any, BLM gets this year (if Tate plays well, perhaps they try and hide him from Ottawa?). Alternatively, if Calgary thinks they will lose a QB this year, whether they keep Perriloux on the practice roster in anticipation of 2014.

Love the guy but he is always injured. I am still surprised they released him though. Another surpising to me was Kevin Dixon and looks Shawn Lemon beat out Stevie Baggs. I also thought Receiver Khalid Paden played well on exhibition games but he was in tough to crack the lineup with Joe West, Mo Price and others ahead of him on a depth chart.

I played DE at a pretty high level, and while I was aware of any SB cracking I would have been especially aware of one who had the ability to flat out destroy me even if I saw him coming. That gives a team a huge edge, both on game day and in the lead up as it's something that needs to be factored into the game plan. I haven't seen the guy play a lot, but weight loss does not equal lighter on your feet or increased speed, it simply doesn't work that way.

That is great news. Having a guy like him on the PR when we inevitably get guys on the IR will do nothing but help this team. Good pick up for nothing.

That hurts:

@calstampeders: Coach Huff: Unfortunately, we've lost Corey Mace for the season (with a torn labrum) #CFL #YYC
