Didn't MacTavish take the team to the Cup finals against Carolina in 2005?

Way to funny!!!! They finally do the right thing and fire Tambelinni, only to hire someone just as useless in MacTavish.

I remember stories that the team had effectively tuned out Mac-T during that run and were doing a lot of self coaching with Pronger and Peca.

Listening to QR77 now and they confirmed it too. They will also be broadcasting the press conference if anyone wants to listen.
A real shame. Oilers were never going anywhere with Tambo as GM. And how the hell does MacT get the GM job? Has he even done anything like that before?

Just got the TSN text, my guess is that the Oiler faithful are going to be enraged that the Oilers didn't go outside the organization. A lot of them were talking up Burke pretty hard.
Where does this leave Krueger now?

He's Oilers alum, buddies with Lowe, and just got his MBA. That's akin to being able to write your own ticket with this organization.
Thoroughly disillusioned at this point.

So not only do they retain the old boys club, they brought back a retread? Craig Muni wasn't available to take the job or something?

No, you're thinking of Chris Pronger (and 2006).

Homicide jokes aside, they just hired the last guy dumb enough to play without a helmet to manage their young talent.
Boys on the bus still going strong...

To be fair, MacT was their best coach in many many years. Got them to a game 7 Stanley Cup Final. I consider his situation similar to our situation where he wasn't given the tools to win and they eventually had to fire him to attempt a culture change.
EDIT: Of course, it's a truly terrible decision for G.M.

LOL, I totally read that wrong the first time, thought it was saying MacT was going to be interim GM the rest of the year, then hand the reigns off to Howson. But MacT's actually the full time GM?? Hahahahaha that's awesome news! I hope that Old Boys Club never dies.

Kinda reminds me of when Darryl was promoted to GM. Anyone remember how that went for him?

I like how our young guys beating their young "stars" was the nail in Tambo's coffin.
