Tambo deserves to be fired but it should be both he and Lowe receiving pink slips as firing Tambo alone is akin to Feaster being fired and King remaining in his role.
Or as Transplant mentioned it was Lowe feeding Jones the info so they could begin the scapegoating of Tambo.

Get the masses all riled up and wanting Tambo to be fired, then when Lowe actually fires Tambo he looks like the savior.

I'm betting that Lowe steps back in as intern GM.

Ah yes, but Tambellini doesnt have 'was an Oiler in the 80s' on his resume....

Wouldn't put is past Lowe. They are embaressed from Saturday's loss and what better to appease the fans than to give them blood? Tambellini was always hired to be the fall guy as he was always GM in title only. As long as Lowe remains so will the good times for Flames fans as that franchise is doomed to fail as long as his fingerprints are all over them.

They don't want Tambo making that next top 3 draft choice. Plus his record outside the first overall pick in pretty bad.

Hard to blame him as with the Flames, who knows who is calling the shots and where. Maybe Lowe still has big say in drafting, even past #1 pick.

If Tambo was smart (or was allowed to) he would have traded one or two of the young guys for a package of higher end goal and defense prospects, guys ready to make that jump now or next year.

That team is so unbalanced and it is no secret. Yet no one has tried anything bold past drafting the consensus #1. No wonder they are so good on the PP, but awful 5 on 5.

But ya, everyone knows Lowe is the problem, and this won't change anytime soon, and neither will the Oilers.

Year 8 of the rebuild, here we come.

I'm guessing Lowe will be promoted again. Sultan, Emperor, maybe Czar?

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie 24s Hearing Craig MacTavish is new EDM GM and Scott Howson will be taking over MacTavish's role. As per @TSNRyanRishaug, EDM fires Tambellini.

Not surprised to see this announcement, the Oilers have been getting killed up here since that uninspired loss to the Flames over the weekend. Probably the first instance in my time here that I've actually seen negative pressure put on the team by its fans/press. They've been getting a free pass for a long time.

He played for them in the glory years, failed as head coach so why not? Makes perfect sense.

That move is several more years of incredible ineptitude.

Neither of those guys has any idea what they're doing.

Oilers in a nut shell. Have a good yougn forward core due to 1st overall picks and such. However they have done jack all with 2nd and 3rd round picks during those bad years. Have no quality forward depth. No big size in their top 6. Their D is very poor overall. Shultz can move the puck but his D is horrible. Goaltending is hit or miss as well.

For almost as long as I’ve followed the Edmonton Oilers, sports columnist Terry Jones has been on the scene. I’ve always liked his work. He’s got a great sense for a story and he’s always tell it like he sees it.

Now, I imagine there’s some rule about never praising a member of the competition, but the Internet seems to have loosened those rules. The Sun isn’t really The Journal’s competition for your attention any more, at least not like it used to be. The whole world — brought to you by the Internet — is The Journal’s competition, just like it’s Jones competition, and it’s the competition of every Oilers broadcaster and Oilers blogger. We’re all in the same boat, fighting for your attention.
Quote:
“Is there any public confidence in Tambellini, based on his record and the performance of the pro scouting department in general, to make the deals to get the right guys to give the young talent the chance to succeed? The answer is no.”

Jones hits on the key point here. With the Oilers’ weak record of signing and trading for pro players during Tambellini’s years, should anyone have any real confidence that things can get better this summer? Can he be trusted to get it right?

I can see the press conference now

Lowe walks up to the podium, looks down and his long combover hangs limply gently brushing the microphone. He looks up a single tear slides down his face as he pats his head.

Lowe - "I'm sad to announce that the canary in the cage has died today, I was forced to let go my friend and fall guy Steve-O Tambellini.

The crowd doesn't gasp with surprise. They're surprised to see Darryl Katz sitting in the corner of the interview room in his Oilers pajamas playing vigorously with his Kevin Loew and Mac-T action man figures. They look uncomfortable as Katz slowly licks the Lowe figure and mutters "My Prescious . . . nobodys takes my precious"

Anyways back to Lowe who has been smirking at the audience

Lowe - "That's right . . . like a Vipa, I made my move, it took some time for me to remove my hand from the hole in Tambellini's back. Now I have the arduous task of finding a replacement for my pupp . . . err pal Tambo. I'd like to announce that it was me Edmonton Oiler fans . . . . it was me all the time that was going to take over the role of acting GM"

Terry Jones mutters around the 7 donuts jammed into his maw "You son of a b%tch vi . . . . err Lowe"

Lowe - "Now chances are my best buddy Scott Howson is going to be the GM here and work with me hand in back"

Random Edmonton Reporter who's actually clever thinks of a headline "How Lowe?"

Lowe - "Or like a Vipa I could change my mind and name my good buddy Mac-T as the next GM"

Same reporter brainstorming "Lowemac?"

Lowe - "All you need to know is that as a Oiler great, I will never be fired . . . I could bugger a panda bear and I'm secure. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to prepare for the draft my going to 7-11 and picking up the Hockey News Future Star's edition"

Jones - "Mrrrgl" he starts chocking on the 12 inch deep fried sub that he crammed into his enormous mouth. He falls back and several reporters start to jump on his enormous body flipping in the air like kids on a trampoline.

Loew - "I'm outtie"
