What a ridiculous thread. He got burned by a source who likely thought this was a done deal. EVERYONE was saying Boston all night until Pittsburgh came out of Feaster's mouth.
Ward does a good job.

No, he should not be fired. That's what happens to insiders sometimes, it's happened to em all before and will again.

yes he should be canned on the spot and maybe some of these idiots from all networks will actually do their jobs correctly instead of always trying to be first.
|
I thought it was funny the real 'insider' - Bob McKenzie didn't say too much when Ward ran out of the studio and then ran back to break the 'trade'.

Ward provides good info and was quite insightful during the lockout especially from a PA perspective. He's also well spoken, and not a bumbling idiot like some ex-player panelists.
He definitely dropped the ball and got caught up in the moment, his inexperience probably got the best of him. He'll learn from this moving forward..provided his bosses aren't as bloodthirsty as you.

I dunno, TSN interviewing Marchand on Boston about the Iginla trade is pretty hilarious, too.

Never heard McKenzie or Dredger say it themselves. They were saying that their colleague Aaron Ward has reported the Boston trade. Ward blew it plain and simple and should stay off tradecentre this week.

Absolutely not. I actually feel bad for the guy.
It's just the world we live in with social media and how everyone wants to be right the fastest.
I don't know who his sources were, but they let him down big time.

When they quoted Aaron Ward as being the source, instead of 'TSN', that raised alarm bells. They must have known that he opened his mouth too soon.
Still... how does this explain Khoklachev being scratched? I think damn near everyone was expecting this to go the Bruins way, including Wards sources and possibly even the Bruins management.

"Boston sources" can now be a euphemism for complete fata in trade speculation.

It's no secret that they were close with the Bruins. Like really close, but I think there was a late push by the Penguins that changed everything.

McKenzie said there were formalities still to be done, but TSN ran it, including Duthie, and immediately put up the graphic, and from the second intermission on, TSN basically stood behind Ward's info.
But from Feaster's timeline, Iginla had signed off on Pittsburgh already over Boston, and Iginla wasn't in the building when this went down.
Wonder if we'll ever find out the third team involved....when Feaster writes his tell all book in a couple years I suspect.

To be clear - no excuses - our group at TSN, of which I'm part of, regrets making a reporting error tonight. Apologies to our audience.

I think we should wait until all the facts are in before we put Ward in front of a firing squad. I'd like to know who his source was and why Ward felt that person was reliable enough for him.

No. I also feel really bad for the guy. Most people's mistakes at work aren't this public.
At the same time, when you're a public figure, that's part of the job. It's going to be hard to take his "sources" seriously for a while. As an "insider" his credibility is everything and it's really damaged right now.
Well again (/simmer), I feel terrible for the guy.

A first that wasn't conditional maybe?...in the end, Jarome made the decision and all that "close with Boston" might have only been leverage and Feaster and Iginla knew all along he was going to Pittsburgh. All speculation.

He should not be fired, but he should have to admit that he goes by the handle Ecklund and runs a hack website ... and any future reporting from Aaron Ward now needs to come with a rating from W1 to W5...

it doesn't sound like there was a push. It sounds like the Flames wanted the Bruins deal but Iginla went against what Calgary wanted and waived for the Penguins.

Hmm, if I was the GM and thought I had a guy feeding the press perhaps I'd confide in him that the deal was done and include some important detail like, oh I don't know, that the first round pick was conditional?
