I still think this kid has PPG potential. He has great vision, and his speed is already good enough for the NHL level - and I expect him to get a bit faster and stronger yet. I bet by the end of the season, we will all be uber-excited over him again.

But not for a while yet.

Most impressive to me so far has been his passing.
Soft passes at great angles right on the tape.

Any current players that you would compare him to? PPG guys are pretty scarce.

PPG are scarce in any given year, but they aren't scarce in a career. Tanguay had 3 PPG seasons. I think Baertschi's upside is a little higher than Tanguay's.

Baertschi will be fine. He's not Iginla, but the first time fans caught a glimpse brought back memories.
He should be a 60-70 point guy in his prime, but it could go either way. He was quoted in the Herald, saying he's missed a ton of open nets, which is the right attitude.
I want to see him play with Gaudreau.

Iginla only has 5 in his career. Rick Nash is yet to have one (not that either of those are comparable to Sven). I could see Baertschi having an outlier PPG season, but more of a 65 pt kind of winger overall. There just aren't many PPG players anymore.

He will be better with an offseason of getting stronger under his belt and a full training camp in September. This season is kind of a write off given his injuries and anything he does from now to the end of the season is a bonus.

Yeah, exactly. The Flames have three guys on their roster who've hit a PPG at various points in their careers. I think when people say he can be a PPG guy it doesn't mean season in and season out but that he can hit that a couple times in his career. Which I totally agree with.

That's always been the knock on him, hasn't it? That for a player his size, he's not mobile. Shifty, but can't burn past players like Lombardi.

Please just send him down.
Let him be the guy in Abbotsford. Give him 25 minutes a night in all situations.
Though, with the way Ward is handling our younger players, I'd be worried with him down there as well.

I agree he needs to be sent down before he gets hurt. Hes tossed around like a little girl almost every time I see him with the puck. We don't need to rush this guy.

I think it's amazing how many of our prospects hit a wall when they transition from juniors to pro hockey. It's really starting to looking more and more like the Flames aren't a poor drafting team, but instead are by far the worst at developing prospects in the NHL. These guys have no idea what they're doing.
Enough with players like Kolanos and Walter in Abbotsford. It is inexcusable to see Reinhart sitting, or seeing Baertschi get benched an entire period during the lockout.
Winning comes first even at the AHL level for the Flames, though they haven't even been doing a good job at it down there.
Baertschi has lost all the confidence he had coming from junior. That blows my mind. Changes need to be made regarding player development, and quick. Something isn't working, and hasn't been working for a long time.
