I think the most concerning part of his game right now is him being weak defensively, getting pushed off the puck etc..

That being said he has been better and he is still adjusting, Hartley jumped him from 8:40 ice time in the Colorado game to 13:00 in the Vancouver game, it's nice to see the coach has also seen improvement and is rewarding him because of it.

Just a matter of time till the points come, he's extremely creative and dangerous in the offensive zone but we all know this already

I like the kid but he needs to be more consistent in his play. Part of that will come with hopefully getting more ice-time but its the old catch-22. Need ice-time to play consistent and need to play consistent to get ice-time.

Baertschi was unreal in his end last game.

I kinda want to know what you guys are watching. I'm seeing a kid be given 8 minutes a night, seeing his plays die on Comeau's stick.

I'm evaluating all 9 games i've seen him play this season.. he has been improving every game and last game was by far his best overall

He seems to be like most rookies, especially offesnsively minded guys like himself, that he is inconsistent and having a hard time doing all the little things that makes you a successful NHL player.

I think it depends on what you expected from him and as a 13th pick I think he is doing fine but as a guy that we saw take big steps in Junior to be possibly better than that 13th pick there sure would be some concerns.

I think he has shown enough that there still is some hope that he will turn out to be a top 6 (or more) guy but he definitely has to improve overall to allow the coaches to put him in those situations.

I think that he should get some more PP time to help get his confidence/use his skills but it is tough for him as the Flames don't seem to be able to give him those minutes with their goal of making the play-offs as the number 1 goal.

I really don't hope for it to be like this. However, you think Sven will take as long as Kadri took for the Leafs?

If this years Kadri is no fluke, then I have no problem waiting that long for Sven.

Early yet but see his upside as a 20- 25 goal 50-55 point winger. Good second line scoring winger. We shall see.

I don't think so. A lot of Kadri's issues were with conditioning, mental focus, and attitude. Sven doesn't have issues in any of those areas. I'm sure he's seen that he's going to need to get much stronger to succeed at the NHL level, and will put in the time this Summer to get there. I think he's underrated defensively as well. His ability to read the play so well usually has him in the right place to break up plays, unfortunately he gets out muscled a lot of the time.

The Pros:
-Good speed
-Excellent ice vision
-High end passing skills
-Good shot
-Very good creativity
-High work ethic
-Good puck battler despite being much smaller
-Very coachable; has improved a lot in a short time, especially on the defensive game
-Very resilient

The Cons:
-Poor strength overall; upper and lower body
-Takes a little too long to get his shot off
-Doesn't raise the puck enough; shots go into the pads
-Has had some defensive zone lapses, but is improving rapidly

The cons are all fixable/coachable and he has the drive and the willingness to be coached. This kid will be a top talent for years to come. I am not concerned at all.

Really? Pretty low standards IMO.

After these first 9 games you can't really make an evaluation due to the fact he was injured in the middle. I am impressed so far though and think he has had a few tough breaks. I am looking forward for the return of a Baertschi/Backlund line as it looks like they had good chemistry.

What's killing him is his lack of NHL strength the minute the game goes to the boards and he has to fight a defensemen or a forward he's done.

He'll be very good once his strength catches up to his talent.

Cannot wait for Backlund to return. with Sven coming around the top 9 would make a very potent three lines. Giving the opposition fits when it comes to matching up.

Expectations were way to high after his 3 goals in 5 games. I mentioned it at the time that it is best to just watch things unfold. I think he's doing fine and is improving. I just wonder if there is room for him after Backlund comes back.

He's looked pretty dangerous given limited opportunities. He has good hockey sense and skill so I think he's going to be a top 6 player but it's going to take him some time to get stronger and hopefully the organization handles him properly and has patience as it's going to take a few years for him to become strong enough to be able to compete in close against bigger men as he's still really a kid.

Given that he isnt being given any icetime, he has played amazing when he has been on the ice.

Give him 23 minutes a game just like Iginla and he would have more points than Iginla.

Flames coaches ruining his confidence.

Seems about right and that'd automatically make him the best forward / player we've drafted in a generation.

My biggest disappointment is his speed. Looks below average and could be the difference between first and second line player.

I think Baertschi is just getting back to game speed. He has had a couple of injuries this year, and Hartley is just easing him back into the lineup. Look for Hartley increasing his ice time, and look for Baertschi to improve.

I still think this kid has PPG potential. He has great vision, and his speed is already good enough for the NHL level - and I expect him to get a bit faster and stronger yet. I bet by the end of the season, we will all be uber-excited over him again.
