disappointing, I was hoping for ~5 games. Exactly one of the bonehead plays they try to get out of the game.

Would have been a great hit if he didn't leave his feet

That is definitely a joke.

High hit from behind to the head.

More of the same from the NHL.

"Solid hockey play."

edit: and nash leaves his feet for good measure.

They didn't have make him have a hearing for that hit. Terrible.

If Mike Smith doesn't want to get nailed behind the net, he should probably stop wandering out of his crease to interfere with or impede opposition players.

Like it or not, goalies are not fair game. You have to avoid contact. A little incidental contact when fighting for the puck is okay, but can't just run them over.

I agree, and I agree it's a penalty.

I have little sympathy for a guy like Mike Smith though, he routinely makes himself a part of the play by leaving his crease and interfering with an otherwise contested play behind the net.

Nash explaination:

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-pu...2216--nhl.html

Quote:
“It was a rotten hit,” Shanahan said he told Nash.
But not a suspension. "There are lots of hits that we don’t like," he said.
“We don’t like this hit. It absolutely should have been a two [minute minor], and probably should have been a five,” said Shanahan, in a phone interview on Friday.
The no-suspension ruling from the NHL on the Nash hit was that it was an awkward, spinning collision between two players in which the significant majority of the contact from Nash landed not on Kopecky’s head, but the back of his shoulders.
“We don’t see this as being principal point of contact to the head. For a fact, we don’t see much contact to the head at all,” said Shanahan.
“On the Florida feed, when you slow it down, you see Kopecky’s back right shoulder is the initial point of contact. If you slow it down even further, you see the back right shoulder and the nameplate aren’t just the initial point of contact, but the principal point of contact.”

Shanahan even says it in his defense. He hits Kopecky right in the numbers and it should've been a penalty.

heads up their asses on this one.

lol at Edler getting 2 games as Nash get's nothing

I agree with the above that a goalie like Smith that is basically allowed to interfere with play behind the net should be somewhat fair game, but it's against the rules so I didn't mind the penalty, but 2 games is ridiculous. I believe Lucic got nothing for the hit on Miller last year

Nash gets nothing for that hit last night

Shanhan is a bigger joke than Campbell was

I'm not a doctor, and I suppose its part of the rep, but the way Marchand was on his feet and then slowly collapsed to the ice seemed totally fake to me.

Was the hit on Marchand really that different than the hit on Stajan? Pretty similar IMO

Two tier league for sure, and Hall will probably get nothing for his two handed slash last night.

only reason for the suspension is because the player was injuried
