Yes, we installed a monitored security system some time ago, have had no breakins since (touch wood), and find it really gives you peace of mind. You can also recover some of the costs by receiving a discount on your house insurance for having the system. We also have a big male yellow lab with a deep voice, who sounds ferocious when he barks, however would probably try to lick the criminals to death.

My face is a bum!

Once my contract is up I'm going to look at the possibility of modifying my security system to call my cell phone and can the monitoring fees. Has anyone done this?

there are reasonably priced camera systems that can by viewed on iphone and can notify you of motion.
Also for when you are home there is a great motion alram for under $200, it stopped 3 break-in attempts at my house.

Theives like to target corner lot houses, we lived in one in Sundance and it was broken into once. It's a ####ty feeling when you know someone has rifled through all your stuff.

Right... cool... hah... seriously, are you in high school? I haven't been cool in over 15 years.
Stop being such a sensitive baby. I acknowledged it was a crappy situation and added my 2 cents as an aside.

Beddington also isn't that bad of a community. It's a bit older and mature, but this kind of thing does somewhat surprise me. I do live close by in Sandstone, and even when there's B&E's as noted in our community newsletter, there's isn't a lot of losses.
I'm sorry to hear that this happened and hopefully they catch the thieves, and hopefully everyone recovers soon!

this is the motion system i have, you can have up to 4 sensors on one reciever all with different tones so you can tell which one is tripped. these things work for like a year on one 9v battery. They work flawlessly even in -30.
As far as camera systems I went with a cheap nightowl dvr system 8 cams 500gig hdd, infrared, smartphone viewable for $500. bought mine at tigerdirect.
i've since upgraded to a SVAT brand 16 camera system.

Especially when they put post-it flags on pages of note in your vintage pornography...

There's a great mod you can add to most existing alarm systems which you can add any Zwave devices and cameras. This can allow you to control, access and monitor your alarm system from your phone/computer.
If an event ever occurs your system can text, call and/or email you. Plus record or take pics with the cameras. It can also include devices like light switches or plugs that you can create timers or control - all from your phone.
Its called Vera and its great. I work for ADT and I cancelled my monitoring when I put this in.
