I think the days of massive world wars like that are over, because our technology has just become too advanced. With the threat of nuclear strikes in everyone's minds, I can't see too many G8-type countries directly attacking each other on a large scale, in terms of invasions, etc like how it used to.

On a side note, had a prof talk about the subject in the OP recently, he was saying he thinks in 100 years when they go back and study us, they'll be blown away at how much $$$ & resources we wasted. I wish I could remember more in detail what he had said because it was a very interesting talk. Basically his take was that economically things will be a lot worse and they'll look back on us as a very spoiled & glutonous society.

WWIII will be a series of internal strife and civil wars that occur simultaneously everywhere in the world. It won't be like the wars between nationstates that we have seen in the past, but it will be fought between factions that don't recognize boundaries. The information age lends itself to this type of organizing that wasn't possible in previous ages. It will be much like the rebellions and revolutions of Europe during the 1800s where republicans tried to rise up against royalists and the upper classes, but this time, the level of organization will be like something the world hasn't seen.

-I predict the Americans will meet their match when the Chinese eventually reach the same superpower status as them. Of course America will not like this but there will be nothing they do about it. America will also invade another country which eventually the entire world will be against. This will lead to the beginning of the downfall of the American empire.

-Life will eventually be found on Mars which results in the single largest discovery in the history of humanity. It will only be the remnants of microbes that will be found. But this leads to the conclusion that there are billions of other civilizations out there among the stars.

-The rules of physics will be rewritten as we know it. Evidence of dark matter/dark energy is uncovered and scientists scramble to find a way to explain how anti-matter reacts with matter to produce the universe we live in. The god particle is NOT found at CERN.

-Nanotechnology explodes in growth as scientists discover many ways to cure/treats diseases at a cellular level.

-A major terror attack on North American soil will take place. Ramifications will be similar to post 9/11.

-Many more countries in the middle east revolt against their leaders similar to Libya and Egypt.

-Kim Jong-il dies and his son takes over. However he is unable to hold the iron grip that his father and grandfather held over the years. The Juche ideology begins to falter and both Koreas eventually reunite.

-The International Space Station is hit by a large piece of debris and forces humans to focus on how much clutter is currently in orbit and how it can be removed.

The people of Okotoks will open their 100 year-time Capsule and puzzle over ample pictures of my dogs. Abby & Keeper, that I slipped in there while adding images of every day life from their community.

There will be a space elevator and we will be mining minerals on the moon.

Cold Fusion will be a reality. Fossil fuels will be a significantly declining presence compared to today.

Earth's population will have peaked at 11 billion then dropped to seven billion with a continuing declining trend . America's population will have risen steadily to 500 million but will be racially unrecognizable from what we see today. China's population will be half what it is today. India's will have doubled.

Brazil will be a dominant global economic presence. We'll all be good at the Samba.

The world will have economically integrated like never before, meaning the trend towards proxy conflicts will continue as before, the political last resort versus pure confrontation between powers.

We will have discovered and imaged several Earth like planets outside our Solar System.

Purely Islamic nations will have moderated substantially and enjoyed a renaissance of thought, freedom and economics as a result . . . .

The world's oceans will be recovering from near death.

The Northwest Passage will have been free of ice for 50 years before an emerging global cooling trend clogs it once again.

Economically, Greeks and Italians will have finally completed their rough transition to becoming Germans.
