I know eh? It's ludicrous to be whining about it when independent auditing has shown this to be one of the most transparent bidding processes in history, the feds already extended the bidding deadline by two weeks for them back in July, they had secure financing from the province, they were bankrupt just weeks before the bidding deadline and their bid was the most rushed and spotty of the three. But, it's Quebec afterall.

I guess you missed out on voting for the Rhino party. They promised a submarine base in Chestermere Lake among other things.

This is directly creating jobs with the ships being built in Canada, and if we can keep claim to our resources in the North because of it, we will make money.

You're crazy.

Like I said, nothing about this is "bad" for Vancouver. This is good news, even if it is the smaller contract. The smaller contract is still $8 billion.

Build a trench? You idiot. Where the hell do you think the Bow flows into?

Hint: It doesn't stop at Cranston.

As someone on my Facebook said yesterday, "So glad Halifax will finally have a shot at some money and influence in our region".

There are a lot of people in Saint John that are pretty upset right now. I'm not sure I agree with them; the Saint John shipyard probably wouldn't have been able to survive the 10 years between the date of its closure and the awarding of this project, even though it supposedly would have been better qualified for this scale of construction.

I am at least happy that it stayed in the Maritimes; to me, it wouldn't have made sense to build them elsewhere.

A lot of people on my facebook think that somehow the benefits of $25 billion being invested in Halifax will magically stop at the causeway.

I hate green text, and usually cringe when people use it for obvious sarcasm. I always argue that good sarcasm should never need green text. Then I read responses like this and just......oh man.

Given the "Davie Shipyard" current ownership issues, it doesnt surprise me that they didnt get any part of the contract - when you hand out these contracts I am sure a big part of the thought process is can these shipyards handle something of this size or will they go belly up 1/2 way through.

Typical Saint Johners, failing to see the big picture. Are they forgetting that the shipyard in Halifax is owned by the Irving family, whose headquarters are in Saint John? Lots of this money will find its way into your local economy.

I guess that is what they get for voting for the NDP.

If the Conservatives still had a minority, you could bet your bottom dollar that Quebec would have been awarded one of the contracts.

Well, it's not like they were voting for the Conservatives before. The NDP's gains in Quebec came at the expense of the Liberals and especially the Bloc. The Conservatives won a majority because they gained seats elsewhere in the country; Quebec was more or less irrelevant to their electoral victory.
