Not everyone is cut out to be a scientist, they've taken what they have, identified a market and exploited the hell out of it. That's an incredible skill.
Btw, it takes more than scientists to create a society

I'm not a doctor or scientist, but I sure do respect them a hell of alot more than I respect a socialite making money off her butt and not really famous for anything else, other than leeching off her dad's name.
And I'm not attacking the product like Ozy_Flame said. I'm in the selling business as well. Not sure why you're jaded by that.

I don't get where this idea comes from, her Dad's name is barely relevant today and was barely relevant a decade ago.

Well obviously.
But somehow, I think humanity would survive without the Kardashians. It wouldn't without doctors and scientists.
But hey, keep watching their show and buying their perfume.
Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

Exactly, so I'm not sure why it's even relevant to begin with. Case in point.

I think humanity would survive without a lot of things. We'd be fine without art, music or many other forms of entertainment. This may be a very low brow version of entertainment, but that's what it is.

Presumably, society would survive without chocolate bars too. Yet, you keep buying them and Cadbury/Hershey keeps making money. No different. I don't buy "Kit-kat" and I wouldn't mind if someone shot the Kardashians in the back of the head, but it's a product like any others, and clearly enough rubes buy it. Good for them for making a lot more money than typical whores make off selling their ass...

It's not relevant, it never was. She created her career based largely off of a leaked sex tape and a big ass.

Great, support it then. I don't, and never will.
I'm more interested in enlightening myself by attending a lecture by a doctor or scientist discussing a pertinent, real-world issue than I am watching Kim Kardashian go shopping or what she had for dinner.

Humanity could probably survive without you or me as well . . . . so what's your point?

Well obviously.
Kardashian is the extreme though, pretty much making money from being a socialite. How that is important I will never know. But if she's good at doing it, then great... she should keep doing it if that what she wants to do. I support that.
But that doesn't necessarily mean I place value or priority on what she does. She's just another Jersey Shore or Jerry Springer phenomenon.

Could be skill, could be luck, could be just being in the right place in the right time.

Christ, you're looking at this too deeply. Try to think of the broader issue here.

Luck and timing can get you a start, it takes more than that to sustain and grow over time, and that's what they've done. Granted there are likely a number of puppet masters behind the scenes.

What makes you think I support it? I don't watch it or buy any of the products, much like I don't consume or support the vast majority of things out there. That doesn't mean I can't recognize what it is and the role it plays.

Quite the contrary. I'm in the shallow end of the pool, wallowing in Kardashian shallowness.
This fits into the description of "discretionary spending," the stuff every person in the world blows a few extra dollars on for personal amusement, and this foolish but simultaneously smart family have attached a hose to that fawcett.
If you're trying to say every ounce of "discretionary spending" should go into helping our fellow man through charities, etc, etc . . . . . I think you're missing something about human nature.
Should the Kardashians be doctors or lawyers? None of my business. If it wasn't them, it would be someone else who had discovered this particular niche.
Lastly, I will leave you with the defining quote from Kim Kardashian: "I live for makeup."
What a completely useless person. And getting richer by the minute. And probably employing hundreds from the first through the third worlds to support her machine. So maybe not so useless.

Of all the things that confuse me the most about this family, the one that concerns me the most is why there is so little photographic evidence in this thread regarding the nature of this aforementioned ass.

Same with me, but that't not the crux of my argument and never has been. I have no problem with the Kardashians making money off what they're doing; again, if you're good at something, make money from it. My family started a business from nothing and saw success as well.
It's the values that I don't agree with. I just don't value what they do and I never will. IMO, being a socialite isn't special. Being a doctor or scientist is.
Again, different strokes for different folks, I guess.

Threads like these - and ironically enough the people complaining about them are why they are famous in the first place. I have never seen the show - hell I didn't even know that there was more than the one who was going out with that guy who played football until I opened this thread.
They don't only market themselves - they also market how much people dislike them, turn that into fame and that is what generates their money. If the people who hated them so much would just not put the effort into hating them so much half of their market or more would disappear. At the end of the day it isn't my money directly going towards them so I don't care that much.
