Swype was the least impressive thing about my Android experiment. I've been typing on keyboards for a lot of years now, I know where the keys are and I can hit them pretty quick. That sliding my finger around on the screen to spell out a word thing was nowhere near as awesome as some people make it out to be. It pretty much turns typing into a video game when all I really want to do is send an email to someone.
Lots of stuff to love about Android, but swipe is not one of them.

Not a fan of Swype either. Swiftkey, on the other hand, about doubles my typing speed. They way it is able to predict the next word based on the previous is pretty awesome, and does it in a way that I'm still in control (Unlike iOS, which always seems to sneak in the word it thinks I want without me noticing)
i'll have to save that link to show any of my Apple buddies the next time they try and complain about Samsung being cheaply designed
I know a ton of people with cracked IPhone screens. Noone should ever buy an Apple product for its durability.
As for design. Maybe it's just me, but I find the IPhone to look pretty dated these days. When it first came out, it look new and sleek, but now I just find it kind of cliched looking.
I'll admit the Iphone has a sturdier feel, but I think that is probably part of the problem. The drop test demonstrates how the heavier harder materials crack and shatter more easily.

Samsung is cheaply made with plastic. Yes, it’s obviously not going to shutter like the Iphone’s glass. The iphone looks and feels like a million bucks compared to a Samsung phone.
As far as design goes, what’s there to be designed in a Samsung. They put the components on the circuit board and built a plastic cover on top. That’s why they don’t have smooth lines, it’s thinner here, thicker there etc. No design whatsoever.
The older Galaxy S at least was consistent. But then again, it was a complete rip off of the 3G.
From the Android phones I think Sony (xperia) makes the best looking ones.
As for the bolded part. That's how I feel about the white iphones. Not sure why, but I dont like the white ones with the white front. My wife has a white 3GS, but with the black front it looks really good still.

The design between hte two phones really isn't all that drastically different though. The major difference being that the Samsung has more plastic/rubber on the back, which makes it more durable.
From the front, size difference aside, the phones look very similar.
The galaxy and htc are both big pieces of crap. Galaxy looks and feels like cheap, who cares about a screen size, if I need a massive screen I'll get a tablet or carry around a laptop instead of plastering a big piece of drywall too my face.
Galaxy feels like a piece of plastic, looks like it was designed by a child in play school.
Strange. My Galaxy S(not sII) does not feel cheap at all. Sure, it is lightweight, but not cheap.

I won't say that Apple makes a cheap product, because I've loved every single Apple product I've owned, but a friend of mine cracked the screen of their iPhone while putting on the Otterbox case for it.
To me, there is no way in hell a screen should crack that easy.
I actually just handled a Galaxy S for an extended time today for the first time. I was impressed with how durable it seemed, given the flak it has received.

Is the Galaxy S II that different looking from the original? I've got the original and after watching that faceoff in the OP I thought it looked pretty much the same as mine, minus a button or 2. I just ask because I don't see how it even remotely looks cheap or toyish, I actually thought it looked pretty stylin, its why I chose it over the HTC Desire last winter.
I still can't get my head around how it being lightweight means its cheap, isn't lightweight good?? The less I notice it in my pocket, the better. I'm a rook with tech stuff so I can't throw up any graphs, but all I know is, compared to the girl's iPhone, mine's lighter (though apparently that's bad, somehow), more scratch resistant, faster internet from what I've seen with smoother scrolling, larger screen, and better picture/video quality, in regards to both Youtube clips & using the video recorder. Oh yeah, and Swype rules.
By no means am I trying to say Samsung's awesome / Apple blows or anything like that, I'm sure they're both fine and realistically pretty equal. I just feel like I'm taking crazy pills when I read about how iPhone's somehow far superior to it, I don't see it at all.

In the summer I was drunk on a pub patio with some buddies and I was saying how durable it was. I then proved this by whipping it at the patio wall (we were the only people out there) and then kicking it as hard as I could (did I mention I was drunk?). When I retrieved it, the thin rubber case I bought for it had some minor scratches, but the phone itself was fine. Don't have a cover on the front and the screen has no scratches at all. It passed the Sainters drunk rage test, very durable phone.
So you carry around another battery? Why not just get another phone which has a good battery life. My phone lasts me the entire day, and at times I use the heck out of it.
The biggest drain on battery life with current generation smartphones is the screen. Power consumption correlates with screen size. Battery tech hasn`t kept up with the phone hardware. That`s an issue all makers have to deal with.

Not only is the apple heavier, but it is also smooter. I've used my friends, and I find myself strugglign not to drop it. The plastic/leather backing to the Samsung might not be as sleep looking, but it is definitely lighter, more durable, and easier to grip.
Haha ya, I was pretty hammed. Seemed like a good idea at the time.. Pretty lucky I didn't destroy it, to this day whenever I see those guys they bring up that incident and still laugh about it. I also forgot to mention I accidentally dumped beer all over it too.
Pretty proud it literally suffered zero damage, especially considering at the exact same time, one of em also accidentally spilled some beer on his Blackberry Torch, and it completely broke down, to the point where he needed to buy a new phone. POS

Don't you notice how the Apple fanboys are the ones saying Samsung blows/Apple rules, while the rest of us all say that both phones have their benefits?
I like the iPhone. Hell, I love the iPhone. To me it is the perfect size phone, perfect shape, perfect everything. I could even live with iOS if I had too. Except the Galaxy S was $400 cheaper, I could unlock it and use it on any carrier in Canada, and it does everything the iPhone does.
For $400 cheaper. So screw the resale value. $400 cheaper is more important.
Was reading this thread, and totally forgot about Swype. I got a Galaxy S a few months ago, owned a Blackberry previous. Texting on the Blackberry was much easier then this stupid touch screen.
Just started using swype... INFINITELY better then the touch screen keyboard i was using. My wife has been complaining about my misspellings ever since i switched phones. I've only sent out a few text messages to play around with Swype. It will take awhile to get used to, but I see why its so much better then the touch screen keyboard.
As for broken screens. I seem to see alot of apple products with cracked screens. I've got two friends with cracked screens on their iphones. Seems like if you don't get an otterbox (or something of that nature) with it you best be damned carefull. Both accidents occured while friends had their phone out of the otterbox to clean it or whatever it is they were doing. One accident was while a friend had his phone on his lap while driving and it fell to the floor. Not an extreme drop by any stretch of the imagination. I've dropped my phone a few times already and all I have on it is the dinky back cover they give you and I've had no issues with it being dropped.
Not sure why people complaining about the cheap feel from a Samsung phone. They feel like a well built phone. Seems like a weak argument as to why not to like a product. If they added some weight to it with a heavier battery or if they secured small pebbles all through out the phone to make it heavier would it magically feel more well built?
i'm not digging the button-less design, i like to have dedicated softkeys for menu, home, and back below the screen. my anticipation for this event is purely for Ice Cream Sandwich, hopefully the Cyanogen mod team is as quick as they were with Gingerbread in getting releases out there
