I read somewhere that if you bought Apple stock when he took over in 1997 and sold when he resigned, you would have made 10,590% on your investment.

Look at Steam for a distribution platform that has drastically dropped prices through digital downloads. Sure, games cost the same as retail boxes initially, but nowadays you can get stuff like Mass Effect 2 for $5 if you catch a sale. Before digital distribution, it would maybe drop to $30 before you wouldn't find it in a store.

It's usually cheaper to buy a whole album through iTunes than it is to buy it at any brick and mortar record store (if you're lucky enough to still find one out there). Left on their own, I suspect record companies would be charging more for music online than what we currently pay. I think Apple has done a pretty good job resisting the record companies demands and dictating the market in a more consumer-friendly direction.
Apple has done a lot to maintain a pretty decent minimum standard in several areas with their products. You can get better music players than an iPod but if it weren't for the popularity of Apple's music player, I don't know if the market would have been large enough for their to be an incentive to improve on that design. Same with tablets. The iPad wasn't the first and it isn't the best but it has basically created (or at least greatly expanded) the market. Now there's room for other innovators to make a better product or one that's aimed at a different segment of tablet users. There were online musics stores before ITMS and there are better ones now offering lower prices or higher quality music. If it weren't for Apple and ITMS driving online music sales into the mainstream, I don't know if we'd have those other/better options available today.

sorta like this article/blog post. If you bought apple stock instead of its products. Pretty interesting.

Apparently he has a very rare type of cancer
http://www.mercurynews.com/business/...nclick_check=1
With the news of Jobs and Layton, we shouldn't forget that millions of people suffer from cancer just the same way every day. It made me think twice about eating a piece of bacon and toast this morning. I realize I have more carcinogens in my diet than I really should.

That's really sad. I would have thought it photoshopped had not been for the news. He can't even stand up on his own.

I don't like that people are selling and publishing photos like these. I know he's a celebrity but let the man have a bit of privacy and respect for his final days.

I'm more upset that the photo is obviously fake. I mean, you're all taking something TMZ posted seriously, without any explanation as to its source? C'mon people.

You can tell by some the pixels and seeing quite a few shops in your time?
TMZ probably paid 5 figures for those photos and they wouldn't risk the backlash of showing fake photos of a cancer patient, even though they're sketchy enough to post them in first place.

Thanks, but 2.49 a song? Yikes.

Ok, maybe the photo is legit. We know he must be quite ill. He wouldn't have resigned if he was even remotely able to continue as CEO. But it bothers me that people accept an unsourced photo from a sleazy tabloid without questioning it. Or maybe I'm the crazy one, and TMZ has become a credible news organization while I wasn't paying attention to them.

Agreed. I felt really ####ty when I first saw them (and curiosity drove me to take a peak) and I--and I;m sure my family--wouldn't like it if photos of me near death were floating around.
TMZ doesn't make the world a better place in any way, shape or form. They are pure garbage.

TMZ is a credible "news" organization. They're pure exhibitionist ... but they don't make stuff up.

Those photos of Jobs are hard for me to look at. It's my recently deceased family member all over again.

Wow those pics are disturbing. I figured with the amount of effort and time he put into Apple that he would have to be near his deathbed to stand down as CEO, and unfortunately, it looks like that was true.
