But but but... It's not a fix, it's the exact same thing as BB. The only reason you have to scroll to the search page is because there isn't a keyboard just sitting there waiting to be used. You're essentially opening the keyboard and just start typing. You don't have to go to contacts or anything, you just start typing. Just like the BB.

/\ Or you can tap the home button once when you are on the "main" home screen and it will do the same thing as swiping to the left.

But you can only have so many characters and then it breaks the text up into parts and decides to send part 2 before part 1 and then part 3 before part 1 or whatever the network feels like.
BBM is excellent for conversing back and forth with as much text as you want, not to mention images, videos, etc.
It is the one thing I miss on my Android. I do use Google Talk though and I can type as much as I want with it, so it has been a stop-gap solution for me to talk to the wife on her BB.

Ah, finally a legitimate reason why BBM is better. That said, I still don't miss my BB one bit.

i'm just a sucker for the BB keyboard (not a fan of the onscreen keyboard on the iphone). I can literally type emails at the same speed on my laptop as i can on my BB, which is very key for me.

Nope.
That argument has to happen in every thread. Don't you know that?

Those 1500 people hired since February still lost their jobs. It doesn't matter that they were with RIM for less than 5 months. The net cut is in fact 2,000. I'm sure none of the people laid off were saying "I didn't have a job before I worked for RIM and I don't now so everything's even Steven..."

Actually, for those people, it can be even worse. They might have left a stable job for the RIM job and their severance will be pathetic. They may not have been there long enough to really learn much from the RIM experience.
People that have been there for many years will get a much better severance and they are more likely to be better off being forced to go into a new opportunity and keep on learning.

If they left a stable job to go to RIM they were stupid and are paying for their own mistake.

Now replying to Slava
I guess if you have 2000 contacts and for certain business types, the BB is better. Just not me or anyone I have ever talked to in real life (except you of course, haha) I don't agree about the calendar being better or especailly email. If I had really lengthy emails, then I would rather not use either device. My emails are usually a series of forwards and back and forth replies, mostly with attachments. The iphone makes the emails look like what I see on a computer, because it is a computer, not a phone with a big screen and mini keys.
The thing about the iphone with my job (oilpatch), is I can see how it could be used more powerfully, there is significant growth room there. AFENavigator could have an app and you could approve/review pesky AFE's that could be done in a meeting. Invoicing could have an app, that mindnumbing task would be awesome to be able to do on the bus or taking a dump. All sorts of programs could have apps that would be awesome and simple.
I realize pretty much no one will know what AFEnavigator is.
Hey kermit, you are an app guy, lets get together and develop some calgary oilpatch apps.
|
AFE navigator app would rock, and there are definitely things about my blackberry that annoy me. The zoom is crap, the browser is mediocre, etc.
BB are definitely more sturdy. I'm on my second blackberry, but the first one got run over by a jeep. My blackberry screen looked better after it got ran over by a jeep than my wife's Iphone did after taking a 2 foot fall off the coffee table and having the screen spiderweb.

RIM is toast if they don't do something to turn the ship around ASAP. I think most people have probably read it, but the open letter to RIM from one of the execs hits the nail on the head imo.

I will never pull for a solid "Canadian" organization to fail. Just as Apple flailed about for years selling over hyped and over priced computers, RIM will find its way out of this morass.
I still think the BB is better as a business phone than the iPhone by miles. Hate the touch screen keyboard among other things. The iPhone is great for personal/fun use, my wife likes it.

Life being number 2 or 3 in the tech world is brutal. The days that RIM dominates or monopolizes the market is over. The question now being will they survive? They still have a stranglehold in the business world and that's not likely to go away unless they do something really stupid.
So I don't think they will be the 2nd Nortel or Nokia. They still make good profits, right around $5/share and with the current share price at $27-28, P/E is only 5 which is really low.
If this is a O&G stock, I'll bet on it. Tech stocks are much more volatile but I'm willing to be a couple large on the stock being oversold at the moment.

Sure, but you're betting on the oil and gas stock because you think that they "have oil" whereas most people in this thread seem to be of the opinion that RIM doesn't. Its not a very apt comparison really.

RIM has needed to change things for a while now, but they've tired and failed. They still have some time with their hold on the business market, but really need to shape up fast. I agree with whoever it was that said that RIM needs to focus on dominating the business market space and not worry about the consumer one. Continue to innovate in the business space and make the BlackBerry even better for business users and they'll be fine.
I heard on the radio this morning that Android has something like 40% or 60% market share in the US any way. I can see them rolling over the iPhone eventually.

No. Android's share came from another manufacturer...
