For the record, I'm not joking. I serioulsy get pissed when some dumbass get's hit by a train. It really bugs me when someone inconveniences half the damn city because they can't figure out to keep their head on a swivel around 80 tons of moving steel.
Yes there is the odd time when a kid gets hit, and that's totally sad, I do have sympathy for those people, but adults who get hit by a train, in my eyes, are no better than stupid pandas.

She's totally lying. I got on the train at Crowfoot at 7:30. They made an announcement that because of the delays we wouldn't be leaving until 7:38, which we did, and I was in my office downtown at about 8:10.

You don't even have to keep your head on a swivel. It's not like a train is going to suddenly jump out from nowhere or do something unexpected. It's 80 tonnes moving on a track. It's one of the most predictable things in the world.
Also, with regards to moving the C-Train underground: It seems like most of the recent incidents where someone had a bad encounter with a C-Train were caused by the person doing something ill-advised on the station platform. Those types of things would still happen even if the trains were underground.

Harsh man. crap happens.always has/always will. drunk, stoned or stupid I still feel bad for someone getting hit by a train. I'm sure your "significant" life can take a small delay while they pick up someone pieces.

I don't feel bad for the drunk driver who wraps himself around a tree, why would I feel bad for the drunk guy who wanders onto railroad tracks? For that matter why would I feel sorry for the sober guy who couldn't be bothered to look both ways before crossing train tracks?
And for the record, I know it's harsh. Yes someone died, or was seriously hurt, and it's certainly in bad taste to copare that to people getting delayed on their commute, but both of those could have been avoided if the person had the minimal sense it takes to think "Geeze, what are those metal rails for? I wonder if I should take half a second to check to see if it's safe to walk across them."
Keep your freaking head up, and we'll both get home on time.

She's not lying, your forgetting that once the train gets to Brentwood it is already packed because of the backed up passengers waiting at Crowfoot and Dalhousie. I waited through 2 full trains at Brentwood this morning.
Also, was this guy lying on the tracks for over two hours? Doesn't the last train leave downtown at around 12:45am?

In theory, having it underground should lessen the amount of accidents in that people don't cross over underground train tracks to get to the other side like they do on 7th Ave. So really, it doesn't prevent these accidents, rather it lessen's the chance of it happening.
But I do agree, people must be totally out of it not to notice a train coming. But we shouldn't be so harsh to judge. Sometimes people are idiots and oblivious, sometimes they just have so much on their minds that don't notice their surroundings. It happens to the best of us.

She's not lying. There was a second accident at some point this morning that screwed up trains from the NW. I'm not sure where it was but it didn't get cleared until later this morning.

Not all the way though (is it a more epic failure when you can't get yourself completely killed?)
And now I'd imagine tax payer dollars are going to prop up this completely sober/not drugged up individuals for years to come.

I spotted the scene from a window at work around 3:30 this morning. Had an excellent view over the Hyatt and centre street station.
I saw three squad cars but no emergency vehicles. One squad car at the head of the train, two at the tail.
The trains running lights were off. I assumed it was a mechanical failure.
Not one minute after I tweeted my findings, Calgary Transit tweeted about 'a collision between a ctrain and a pedestrian downtown.'
My commute home was an absolute clusterfata. At @ 6 am, the broadcast over the PA was telling transit customers leaving the core for a southbound destination to wait for a shuttle bus to pick them up on 9th avenue and take them to Erlton station.
At 6:30 am, Calgary Transit realized they forgot to dispatch said shuttle busses. Some people were waiting in excess of 90 minutes for a bus that never came.
MOD EDIT
On the upside, when I finally got on the shuttle bus at 7:00 am, the entire commute home was free.
Despite the absolute mess it caused, I'm not going to be calling for extra safeguards either. Make something idiot-proof, and someone else will just make a better idiot. Too much money is already being wasted protecting stupid people from themselves.

Here's the cause of the second delay. Large photo.

I believe it was at the 4th Ave. level crossing.
