not my fault you have crappy taste in music. I like how you quote trained ear as if it is something I made up and classical training and actually playing music means nothing.

^oh well then, you must be an aficionado

lol, lacking in humanity... there's this one song about the spiritual evolution of man and the connection with the senses. then there's this other one about the progression of a failed relationship. oh and that one about cycles of abuse and trauma... yeah no humanity at all, better listen to BEP sing about dirty bits

Where is the emotion in the music? You are talking about lyrics. Blah blah blah. Sounds like Neil Peart dedicating an album "to the genius of Ayn Rand".

I don't know, give 10,000 days (Wings Part 2) a try. I always get chills every time I hear it.

Wow. Totally disagree with you. I like to think I listen to music for the humanity in it as well. For all the talk about the "math rock" elements of their work, a lot of their material is pretty emotionally moving. If it wasn't, I'd probably agree with you. But Tool generally don't cross over that line that makes a prog. band kind of cheesey and overly intellectual. Its not like their fans sit there writing physics theorum's as they analyze the music. I think you're perpetuating the stereotype of what they are rather than what they are...which is a really great band that covers a lot of depth sonically, intellectually, and emotionally.

I'm kind of disappointed, troutman. I know you have excellent taste in music so I find to be repulsed by Tool but sticking up for BEP to be very odd and confusing. I'm not a Tool junkie by any means, actually I don't even like them that much. But to say there is 'no humanity' is just...wrong. It OOZES humanity.

Our troutman is not a d-bag. He may be a lawyer, an atheist, a fisherman, a d-bag, but he is *not* a porn star!

Tool's last album was completely forgettable. They showed signs of losing their touch on Lateralus, and metal has grown by leaps and bounds since then, they are officially irrelevant.

Hey, this is fun!

e: who even uses drop-D tuning anymore? So 90's.

Was just gonna say this.

Anyway a BEP to Tool comparison is clearly a fishing trip which we all bit on.

I like Tool but to put them alongside the likes of Zeppelin, Stones, Beatles, etc is ridiculous. I'm not a huge fan of those 3 but they have one thing that Tool doesn't...hooks. Technical prowess is great and all, but you aren't considered legendary without being catchy.

Back on topic... Would Izzy be in board? I just cannot see how Slash and Rose can recapture their songwriting chemistry. Most attempts by either of them without each other have been okay at best. (Did Slash write his last album alone?)

When Chinese Democracy came out Axl posted a few long messages on the band message board telling his side of the story. Obviously completely different than what Slash has written. I'm not sure which side is the most accurate but in all honesty I'd lean more towards the Axl story which just seems to hold more water.

In any case I doubt there will be any reunion any time soon. Both Slash and Axl think the ball is in the others court and neither is man enough to swallow ego and pride. Izzy and Duff are on good terms with both people (Duff recently reconciling and joining Axl on stage in London). I also can't imagine Adler being involved...he'd love to be but there was a reason he was fired and if anyone has seen the guy on TV the las couple of years that reason still exists.

Though I will say the "new" G'n'R is still darn good in concert. Axl is many many things but above all he is a true rock star that can still command the stage. As is Slash and therein lies the problem.

ON song writing...certainly the two together produce a superior song and Izzy had a hand in a good chunk of song writing as well. Music wise while Chinese Democracy was over wrought and over produced, the layers of sound on it is quite something. It should be a complete mess because of it but it isn't. It isn't a terrible album at all...it just wasn't worth that long of wait.

I read that he was in favor of a reunion. He's keeps in contact with Adler and and has played in concerts with the new Guns line up. He also did a song with Slash on his new album. Izzy always was in Axl and Slash's shadow, and would have to be on board to make a reunion any good.
