Everytime I see the Black Eye'd Peas perform I think of the scene in Mars Attacks when the yodeling music makes the alien's heads explode.
While as live performers the BEP are as useless as yodelling music, they probably do have a use as Earth's last line of defense against a hostile alien invasion.

Yup, I saw them in concert (dragged by my gf at the time), I saw them at Grey Cup.
They were horrible both times.
They're a good studio band, but terrible live.

I heard once the Black Eyed Peas were the 2000's version on the Village People. That made me laugh. They've got goofy costumes, guys in the band that really don't serve a purpose other than to make the band a group instead of a dou, and their music is tacky.
As for GNR, it wouldn't be the same as the late eighties early ninties. Though if they came through Alberta I'd pony up the cash just to see them once. I like the comment above about them being the last great rock band.

I think they mean mainstream. In the early 90's we had Guns n Roses, now we have Nickleback.

not at all. There are plenty of good rock acts out there like foo fighters, chili peppers, NIN etc. etc. that have all had mainstream success
The only band that will be remembered like the Beatles, Zeppelin or The Stones is Tool. In 100 years from now people will be disseminating Lateralus' geometric structures, nobody will remember Dani California. (I am well aware this will spark a fervent debate)

I love Tool, but I'm not so sure of this. They are a great band and tremendously talented, but they don't have the following that The Beatles, Zeppelin or the Rolling Stones had/has.

I 100% agree that they don't have as strong of a following, but as a musician their music is so complex that it will be studied like people study Beethoven or Mozart(many prolific composers died in relative obscurity). It really is just like neoclassical music with distorted guitars and polyrhythms. The music will be remembered, not the cultural significance because right now very few people recognize their music for what it is, and it's hard because you have to have a trained ear to fully understand what is going on.

Ya - I'm primarily focused on mainstream. I love music, but I'm not really enough of a music hound to go searching for a lot of new groups (suggestions are ALWAYS welcome though).
I should note that I'm on record as supporting Foo Fighters as one of the great all-time rock bands as well, although I've waned a bit of that over the last couple of years. Still an excellent band (imo), but perhaps just hair below those like GnR, Tool, Zep, and of course the mother of them all, The Beatles.
