Sorry, just got to this - I was in Texas for the weekend. #1 is really scenic, but the Santa Cruz Mountains (go through Saratoga road in the city Los Gatos, just south of Santa Clara) is great, but know that there are lots of bikes and sport cars on there (Lots of Ferarri's, Lamb's, Tesla's, et al) - sort of like a rich people get together where they showoff and race through the curves.
Thanks, I wish I had more time there... I spent three days just messing around on the #1 #84 and #35 and eating awesome burgers at Alice's.
For the first two days it was pouring rain and cold (8-ish) but was still a blast.

So since it looks like the Original Poster got his question answered/recieved some good idea's and recommendations. Any chance we can change this thread to an official motorcycle thread where we can talk shop, gear, ride reports etc?
For my money hardbags are the only way to go. You don't have to be carrying your gear with you everytime you park your bike. The only downfall is they are expensive unless you plan on keeping your bike for a while.
I won't disagree with you about hardbags being the way to go Vulcan, unfortunately for people like me, there's no option for hardbags on most sportbikes.

Ordered a Leo Vince carbon slip-on exhaust for the BMW yesterday. Because, to be quite honest, my Husqvarna sounds more badass. And my Husky is a lawnmower.
Point taken Mad Mel, yes motorcycles are awesome. Leo Vance makes some nice pipes. Currently I've got a two brother's slip-on with a silencer installed (it was deafening without). Someday I'd love to get an akarapovic system.
My newest purchases in the last two months are a 1 piece leather suit, Sidi Boots and a Scorpion EXO-750 helmet. Just need some frame sliders and I'll be ready to take a track class at Portland International Raceway
Fozzie, what kind of camera setup do you use? I'm looking at getting a GoPro HD to document my first track experience.....
This thread is really making me miss being in BC and having a motorbike. My bike was such a huge part of my life until I moved overseas. I had a couple of bikes in Taiwan for a year, but since moving to the mainland I have gone without.
There's nothing quite like the feeling of freedom of heading out on a bike into beautiful empty spaces. Looking at those pics just makes me want to move home again. Even riding in the winter on the wet coast. I would love to be heading up the coast in BC and looking out at the islands with low hanging cloud and lungs full of rich, full air .

Yeah...a pickup truck pulled into Alices with a foot of wet snow piled onto its roof, I think that they came from up the 35. It was funny when the waitresses from Alice's were so enthralled with the snow, as a Canadian the novelty wore off pretty quickly.
There was a interesting group of engineers from Tesla at Alice's as well...apparently their sedan will be coming out for ~$45k (after the California rebate) and the next vehicle will be a CUV.

I used a Gorilla tripod and my Panasonic ZS7 attached to the frame behind the windscreen...not ideal since you can see the vibration problems...but ok in a pinch.

I've got a friend with an 06 or 07 R6, and SHE loves it......
Just kidding (it actually is a chick that rides it, but it's not a "chick's bike") they're pretty good bikes, not the most comfortable things in the world, but no sport bikes are really.
Blackfoot usually has a few good deals like this as they tend to overbuy and get stuck with bikes that are a few years old that they can't sell.
That's how I saved ~6k on my bike.

The R6 is a sport bike dream machine, has been for years. If you really want a sport bike, there's reason to not buy it.
There are bound to be some minor issues with the bike (like all others), but if there were major problems, they'd be widely known/discussed by now. The fact that it's a final year of that generation is also a MAJOR plus.
Also, you may be able to get more knocked off the price, but I'm sure you can negotiate a healthy in-store credit as well. I've never had a problem dickering at Blackfoot.

Both Walt's and Blackfoot have a couple, same price at both places. Originally I was going to hold out for an 11 but the 09 seems to have better specs than the 10.
I took it about two hours north of Brissy, a place called Wolf Rock near Rainbow Beach, at 25m or so depth. It's a grey nurse shark, about 12 feet long. The nice thing about nurse sharks is that they look nasty, but are about as fierce as your average basset hound.
For the OP's consideration, I got this thrown in with my new bike (the tailbag, not the slip-on). It's a BMW tailbag, completely waterproof, big enough for my laptop to lie down flat. It slips over the passenger handgrabs at the back, and then I have two clip straps attached to the frame under the seat. When not in use, the two straps just get stowed under the seat. Personally, I like tailbags; out of sight, out of mind when you're riding.
