I don't see the Flames adding any long term contract with a cap hit over $5 million unless Neal is going the other way, which is not going to happen.

Going to put in my Maroon jersey order now.

Maroon would be a nice pickup. Trading picks is too soon imo. Get a goalie in the summer.

Trading away our draft picks is not the way. They gotta keep the talent coming.

All key forwards locked up or under team control

For sure 3, and possibly 4, Dmen 22 years old or younger along with 3 above average vets

Goaltending a question yes, but a long term solution looks like its emerging as a possibility.

Yet it's this year or nothing?

You'd want to have the certainty that's on the level of Tampa Bay to chuck a 1st+ at 3-4 months of Panarin.

I'm not quite there with this team.

Maybe a rental that doesn't cost an arm and leg like a good middle six center.

I don't know what Panarin would cost, but last season WPG paid:

a 1st (top 3 protected) - 29th overall
a B-prospect (eric foley) OR conditional 4th (if Foley doesn't sign)

for Stastny.

If that's about what Calgary stands to lose for Panarin give or take, then the cost is worth Panarin walking. And Panarin is a gamebreaker, you can run a powerplay through him as a QB, or feed him for one timers with his elite ability to blast it.

Who knows what the price is there, though. Definitely some teams like us with fewer right shot forwards (Lindholm...and Ryan lol) whose PP stands to benefit more from Panarin than a team like Winnipeg (Laine/Wheeler/Scheifele), Tampa (Stamkos/Point/Johnson), or Nashville (Forsberg, Johansen, Turris, Arvidsson)

1st 2019+ jankowski/dube+stone for schenn seems very doable. If they'd prefer two firsts I think could stomach 1sts x2 + stone.

With schenn in our top 6 as well I dont think we'd be at risk of that being a top 20 pick in either draft

Schenn is not coming to Calgary. Get over it. Our cap situation does not allow us to take on a $5M+ salary. Not now, and not inthe future when they have Tkachuk to sign. This is a team that needs quality cost controlled players like Jankowski so we can afford the stars we have and not be a mediocre team with budget issues.

Yeah the logic behind it just kind of boggles the mind. We already have a lot of players making ~5+ million dollars. (Giordano, Gaudreau, Monahan, Neal, Backlund, Lindholm, Hanifin along with several around 4. Not to mention resigning Tkachuk) And people want to trade two of our better cheap young players and our next number one pick for another high salary player? Yeah having a good top six is important, but do you really want two full lines of Quines and Hathaways?

The cap is supposedly going to be hovering near 83-84 million next year and if the Flames can find ways to move contracts like Frolik and Stone and with Smith coming up for UFA/renegotiate as a backup it’s not like we are unable to consider adding another high end piece in the top 6. The more I think about it the more I like bringing on a guy like Kevin Hayes.

Frolik
Dube
Gillies
1st

For

Hayes
3rd

Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Tkachuk - Backlund - Hayes
Bennett - Jankowski - Neal
Hathaway - Ryan - Czarnik

Giordano - Brodie
Hanifin - Hamonic
Valimaki/Kylington - Andersson

Rittich
Smith

Just noticed too that this year is the last year the Blues can trade Tarasenko before his NTC kicks in; I can totally see him on a different team come the new year and the thought of bringing him here could make sense if it meant we could lock Tkachuk in close to his current number - around 7.5 per; with how well Tkachuk passes the puck I could see Tarasenko being a legit 50 goal threat on this roster.

Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Tkachuk - Backlund - Tarasenko
Bennett - Jankowski - Neal
Hathaway - Ryan - Czarnik

For Tarasenko your easily looking at a 1st, Dube, Kylington, Frolik type package

I don't think trading Frolik is a good idea. I like him. You move Stone or Neal first.

If i'm looking at Hayes i'm hesitant to pay a 1st let alone adding in Dube, Gillies and Frolik.

Maybe a conditional 1st if we go to a conference final (2nd otherwise)

That proposal is with the intention of signing him and with the increased cap, Frolik off the books and his best friend from college on the team I think it would be easy to extend him at a reasonable number. Fits right in with the core and is a big body that could help the 2nd PP unit in a big way. I look at Hayes and think of Joe Thornton lite , some one who could be a 20/50 guy in today’s NHL on a team like Calgary. Definitely not suggesting to give that package up to rent him.

At the moment, Stone has not played in months due to injury, and Neal is an unproductive anchor of a contract. Those two have incredibly low value on the moment. They will likely not fetch a good rental pickup unless you sweeten the deal with someone like Frolik.

After watching Carey Price last night against the Coyotes (Go watch the highlights) I really think he could be a rock solid piece for this team.

Sure he has struggled, but he's on a team where he is THE person expected to win them games. That's alot of pressure.

Put him on a Flames team where he wouldn't have to be the center of attention, and where he actually has reliable defense in front of him.... I could see his confidence coming back in spades.

So I'm just throwing the idea out there but this is what I would be okay with.

Gilles
Dube/Janko
Stone
Frolik
2020 1st
2021 2nd *Conditional 2021 1st if Calgary makes the West Final.

for

Carey Price
Phillip Danault
Victor Mete

Frolik and Stone being the cap going back, yet still very functional roster peices. Janko/Dube also another up and coming center which is what Montreal needs badly.
Gilles, unfortunately, because there should be a goaltender going back. To be clear Montreal is in a wild card spot, they are not blowing it up, but they aren't winning a cup this year.

Calgary gets Price in net, Danault who is a steady 6'1 3rd line center. And Victor Mete as a 6/7 defenseman.

Why would Montreal trade Danault to take back Janko or Dube?
