I agree. I would prefer to keep Backlund to Galchenyuk, but even as a huge Bennett supporter, if we had the chance to acquire MacKinnon we'd have to take it.

Flames really don't stand to lose a significant asset in the draft so this is understandable. Really any discussions they may have would be regarding some sort of goaltender transaction.

Was going to say something similar. No sense wasting assets so LV won't take an average player. Keep those assets for something else, like a trade on draft day.

Flames shouldn't be trading with LV to keep them away from our abailable players but they should be all over talking to them about players other teams have made available given we have no goalies and Matt Bartkowski is in our top 4.

Here's hoping all possible trades for yet another goalie end up going nowhere for the Flames. Otherwise, we are going to acquire yet another goaltender only to realize yet again that the problem lies elsewhere. And there are absolutely no deals or hidden gems for the Flames to find right now. Those great finds don't happen in June or July. Stick with Elliot and Johnson - who frankly backstopped a mediocre team with its best players playing below potential for significant stretches of the season - into the playoffs.

It's not about crow, if you want to make a proposal to get a player like MacKinnon, Colorado is going to want a young, impact Center in return. Gotta give to get. Hell, I'd trade Monahan for MacKinnon too.
All in good fun though.

This. I've been anxiously checking cp all day for updates. Most exciting so far is a buyout.

Yeah, watching Sigalet work his magic on the next goalie is going to be so fun to watch. I mean, his track record is stunning since being hired on. Roll with Moose and Johnson again.
PS - When will Sigalet get canned?

If the Habs offered Gally for Backlund I would drive him to the airport myself. I love Backs and he is an excellent two way C but Galchenyuk has consistant 30+ goal scoring seasons written all over him and is younger.

I don't think this is the "Things we think will happen" thread... it's rumours and speculation

Craig Custance @CraigCustance
Sounds like smaller trade going down between Flyers and Coyotes.

I feel like when building a team balance is important. You need different players to handle the multitude of different situations that occur during those 60 minutes every night. A lot of those minutes are comprised in the d-zone. I don't know about you, but for me, there's this calming presence that overwhelms me when I notice it's Backlund's line out there for the draw. Yes, Galchenyuk might posses a better offensive toolbox, but it's not like Backs is a slouch in that regard himself. He was 2 points away from being the 30th best scoring center in the league (so borderline #1 center production), all while getting secondary powerplay time and heavy defensive zone starts. And also it's not like Backlund is a fossil, he's only 28 years old. I feel like fans have an uncontrollable youth/prospect fetish, but ignore how it's the veterans like Backlund who are vital to their development.
Now I'm not saying that I would be upset if we did happen to acquire Galchenyuk because he does have the potential to be a special player, I'm just saying that it would leave a hole in our line-up, and it wouldn't be an easy one to fill.
