Most of the time, I am not big on offer sheets, as I think you reap what you sow.
But Edmonton is our rival, so no worries there. And offer-sheeting Broberg and Holloway would put them in a HUGE bind. They probably match, but it would really mess up their cap plans.
And if they don't match, I would welcome either player.

Part of the offer sheet process is the player has to sign it. I'm not sure Broberg or Holloway would do that. Probably only consider it if they're being strung along in negotiations with the Oilers.

Holloway grew up a Flames fan, why wouldn't he?

They will be playing for scraps. I get that playing to repeat as champs would be intriguing, but if you are being offered a lot of money and you have your ring you probably take the money.

As much as he may have interest in playing for the Flames, if he signs an offer sheet, and the Oilers are forced to match for more than they wanted to pay, it probably just means some bad blood there between him and Oilers management going forward.
I suppose it's not impossible and they could view it as just business.
I dunno, add it to the list of reasons we don't see many offer sheets.

More money.
And as Dis said, Holloway is a Flame fan, from Calgary.
But yes, they have to want to sign it.

I don't know, Sakic signed a big one with the Rangers that left Colorado in a terrible spot, they matched, now he is the president of hockey ops and the GM that put together that roster.

I agree that Florida would almost certainly match and then probably try to get somethign for Knight but it would be highly unlikely that the Oilers would match both.

They could only offer sheet a single player at a time though unless it is different compensation. I’m not sure how tight of a timeline it is but not sure there’d be enough to back to back them.
If Florida gets in a jam the buyout for Knight is just 750k as well.

Normally I would say that the team wouldn't be mad at the player for willing to sign a contract that gives him more money. However, we are talking about the Oilers here.

Probably already posted, but I didn't see it in a quick search. Apparently Columbus is open to trading the 4th OA pick.

Yeah, I'm fine with passing on Broberg and Holloway.

LeBrun says if teams don't like the asking price on Necas he is a potential offer sheet target.

You could probably offer Alex Turcotte 1.5 million on a one way contract and get him for free.
The top guys (Lucas Raymond) will be matched and it makes no sense because to get him at a level that won’t be matched you would have to offer a salary that results in a 1st, 2nd and 3rd going the other way. But the young players for whom compensation is a 2nd or a 3rd or even no compensation you can probably actually get.

I know if I just played in the Stanley cup final I would sign a low dollar offer sheet with a bottom 5 team for the next year!

I don't think we have anything on our roster that would get us 4th overall.

Do we have what it takes to move from 9 to 4 though? Would we want to get that player?

It's not worth the cost it would take.
The draft board is all over the place.
It also seems like they want a roster player back. I am not sure anything on our team plus 9 would get us to 4.

Should it really take a lot to go from 9 to 4?
Isn’t the consensus on this draft that after Celebrini it’s a bit of a crapshoot up until 12-15? And so with that logic no wonder they are willing to trade down to get some value if they are indifferent on whichever guy they get between 4 and 12/13 kinda thing.

It's not worth it.
Seems like he is hinting at a roster player, but if he means just gathering more assets that would be our 1st this year, another 1st next year and probably mid round picks.
At this point in our rebuild, we need to make our picks.
