Yeah.......that's BS.
I can verify that this is not required in the states with AT&T or in Europe (Vodaphone, etc.) so there's no way its a requirement here. Its a program you can pay for if you want but its not required. Better try the wheel of fun with Rogers customer service and try phoning again.

He is kinda right about the Blackberry but not the iPhone.
I am curious CR what is your beef with the iPhone?

MobileMe/.mac is not required. Half of the stuff is Mac specific anyways so most people would find it useless.

Apparently, those of us with retentions plans are still eligible for the 6GB data addon.
...don't quote me on this if it turns out to be false, however.

Sigh, apparently I did my last hardware upgrade 13 months ago. Thus my phone price is going to be horrible. Funny enough though, when I do an upgrade on a BB Pearl on rogers' website, the price with 3-yr contract is MORE than the purchase price of the phone without contract.

I forget, do we have number portability in Canada yet? I'm will Bell and I'd like to keep my phone number if I change to Rogers.

Sure do. You will still be charged the Bell Early Cancellation Fee (if applicable), but just go to Rogers and say you want to switch. They'll work it out with Bell. (Same process if switching To/From Rogers, To/From Bell, To/From Telus, etc)

Not easily, I think someone did it but it required extensive modification to the phone.

This is wild. I've been on a mountain for 3 days ... hiked down to jasper last night, saw a news report announcing the new data plan and then didn't give any details. I've been in a car all day today and now i finally got to a computer and this is the first I've heard of it. Wonderful news. I'll totally get one now.
Internet petitions ... who'd of thought it.

New iPhone Data Plan!
$30 / 6 gig
http://micro.newswire.ca/release.cgi...5804-0&Start=0
- can be added to any 'in-market voice plan' (whatever that means)
- must sign up for the iPhone before August 31
- rumored to be available for any Rogers 3G phone
- They actually did live trials for this, and probably realized their previous data plans were crap (ie: what everyone was telling them).
More news/clarifications to come around noon hopefully....
(Rogers bending to public opinion? Will wonders never cease)

I have to run so I have no time to dig this info up myself. Can somebody fill me in on the Rogers in-market voice plans?

I believe that it is referring to voice plans that are currently available. If you're on some crazy retention plan from 2004 then you might have a hard time adding the 6GB/$30 data plan.
