looking forward to seeing how Canadians react when they get issues and have to send the phone to apple having no phone for 2 weeks
Warranty with that device is very different no loaners for apple users

IMO people are going to buy the iPhone because it's made by a company with a proven record of quality products. People are very tired of crappy phones, and 90% of phones are just that...Crap. Other phones may 'do more' but the iPhone is the best phone out there for what it does - play music, browse the web, and make phone calls. There is not a better mobile browser out there. Period. With that said, I hope you enjoy your 'better' phone whatever it may be.
And heaven forbid having to use an old handset while getting an iPhone replaced. Plenty of cheap GSM phones out there for sale at any time.
Calgaryred, you don't happen to work for Telus or Bell by any chance, do you?

I agree completely. Apple IMO has scored the home run because of it's user interface and it's browser which really blow other phones out of the water. However, quality comes at a price, and Rogers and to a lesser degree, Apple, hold customers hostage with these ridiculous prices.

Wow, so the deal before was 30 a month for 300mb, and is now 30 a month for 6GB?? That is a crazy turn of events.

Actually from $15,000 for 300MB to $30 for 300MB to $30 to 6GB
I checked with the other Fido stores, they're all saying similar things, they open when the mall opens, they'll have a place to line up, they can't disclose how many they'll have but they're saying to lineup VERY early.

Makes me worry about the rumors of Apple re-directing shipments from Canada. Now that Roger's has basically redeemed themselves, the iPhone will be flying off the shelves. This had better not turn into a Wii situation. I'm not going wait a year and a half just to get an iPhone due to shortages. I'll take the next best thing.
The hopes have proven true. The iPhone phenomenon is big enough to change the wireless network in Canada to be a little better for the average consumer. It's still pricey, but at least we get something for the cost.
Gotta love how Roger's timed this. They were the evil one in the market due to their awful plans. Then, Bell and Telus release their stupid idea to charge for incoming texts drawing ire from the general population and attention from the Government. Now Roger's looks like a saint with the release of this 30$ for 6GB plan.
Brilliant PR.

Quick question, earlier in this thread someone posted different levels that you need to be at to get iphone, is there a way to check this? I have never got a phone from roger's my bill with taxes and everything was 65. just changed last month to a bit lower.

There are also rumors of this not having happened at all... Only the internal individuals will know.

Saint? Brilliant PR? Not in the least. The only positive PR that they're getting is that they're listening to the customer. Bell and Telus still have plans that are cheaper than Rogers, but Rogers is the only one with the iPhone. They've created a lot of ill will and unnecessary bitterness, but have gone a long way to smooth it over with this new data plan.

The easiest way is to call Rogers CS and ask them... but since this is all new, they are extremely uninformed (3 calls could give you 3 different answers). The only way to know for sure is to call/try it on Friday (or after) and see what the results are.
With your bill price, the important part is the base voice plan amount. SAF/Taxes/Call Display/extras/etc do not play a part in it (another sneaky trick by Rogers, IMO).

Don't forget you have to pay the required $100 for the first year for synching your email to the iphone and regardless if you plan on using your phone for emails you have to pay it.

You only pay for it if you are using the mobileme service for push to sync email, calendar, contacts, etc.

The iphone may not be for me, but I am glad that it is atleast changing data rates in canada. Now if i could get a reasonable data option without having to re up for 3 years, then I would be happy.

Rogers told me its a requirement the first year
not a ROGERS choice its APPLE that requires it, just like Blackberry used to require a data plan charge until the fall of 2007 when they allowed pay per use $0 plans .

I've never seen any such requirement from Apple... As usually don't trust CSRs any further than you can throw them. On Friday I guarantee they'll all be saying they cannot sell iPhones without a data plan when in fact they can. They'll be lying because they don't make any commission.

Rogers' true thoughts are revealed:
John Boynton, the senior vice-president and chief marketing officer of Rogers Wireless, commented on the tens of thousands of people that have taken a stand on cell phone prices. (in reference to their new improved limited time $30 plan)
“What we’re trying to do is satisfy a very small group of people, the early adopters,” he said. “When those customers are done, we’re back to our basic user.”

Where is this documented? It's the first I've seen of it, and I've read a lot of forums...

Go back and read through this thread to view how the impact was felt. Everything is relative of course and there really isn't a great mobility company operating in Canada for the time being, but Roger's played this week well coming out smelling like roses.
As has been said before, they have tipped their hats by offering the 30$ for 6GB plan. Bell and Telus both offer unlimited plans. If they don't continue to compete, the CDMA network will eventually get some decent phones and Roger's will lose business.
Then again, over all Roger's has never demonstrated a large sense of business savvy, so I could just be hoping on nothing.

Wait, so there is no documentation to back up this claim other then some heresay from a Rogers representative that you happened to talk to? Plus, it's apparently an Apple requirement despite there being absolutely no word about it anywhere on the internet?
Seems more like you have some odd vendetta towards the iPhone.
