He reminds me a lot of Monahan. I think we have a beauty here.

He’s not much like Monahan. More of a passer, and a digger.

I worry he's too small, not very fast, and not elusive enough to have success as a center in the NHL.
I'm sorry I just don't see it. I'm a terrible evaluator of future NHL potential so I truly hope I'm wrong. I'll still cheer for the kid and hope he develops.

Respectfully I think he’s a lot like Mony. Smart around the net, great shot in close, always making the smart play instead of the flashy play. He has more sandpaper than Sean does so that’s a nice element to his game.

Monahan had plenty of grit - his injuries prove it. It's just that he was a finisher, and not a passer like Reschny, and Reschny has a much better defensive game, especially at this stage. I'd put Reschny more like a Toews or, moving downward a bit, Conroy.

As long as he doesn't break like Monny he will be fine.

Will probably have a letter next year. He will be a key player and it should be fun to watch.
I think a lot of people are forgetting/ignoring how exceptional it is for an 18 YO to be playing C for TC - this is a 19 YO tournament, and only standouts make it as under-agers, especially at C.

Let's have a look at how many of the guys drafted around Reschny are comfortably ahead of him...
10. McQueen (ANA) — Not on Team Canada
11. Kindel (PIT) — Already a good young NHLer
12. Nesbitt (PHI) — Not on Team Canada
13. Bear (DET) — Depth player for Team Canada
14. Smith (CBJ) — Not on Team Canada
15. Cootes (VAN) — Depth player for Team Canada
16. Eklund (NYI) — 5 GP, 1 G, 5 PTS for Team Sweden
17. Aitcheson (NYI) — 5 GP, 1 G, 3 PTS for Team Canada
18. Reschny (CGY) — 5 GP, 2 G, 3 PTS for Team Canada
19. Carbonneau (STL) — Not on Team Canada
20. Andreyanov (CBJ) — ????????????
21. Reid (NSH) — 5 GP, 1 PT for Team Canada while playing with Parekh (!)
22. Zonnon (PIT) — Not on Team Canada
23. Hensler (OTT) — 5 GP, 0 PTS for Team USA
24. Horcoff (PIT) — 5 GP, 1 G, 2 PTS for Team USA
Not bad!

Another year in college and another WJC then turning pro the year after sounds like the likely progression for him.

I would agree.
Reschny likely plays some AHL after another NCAA year.
Reschny does need to bulk up if he is going to be playing a Mony style at center.
His faceoff prowess has clearly elevated him to true C. So best to plan accordingly and avoid a Bennett fumble this time.
I wonder what type of player Bennett would have been for us if we let him play a year at center at AHL level when he first turned pro. We were all too impatient with him. Lesson on handling Reschny.
Feeling quite confident we have at least a 3C floor in Reschny with his 2 way game. But his ceiling can be much higher.

Bennett had that year long injury that hampered him. He maybe should have had a year in the A though. When he started he was just not a good centre as far as using his wingers. Then again, I can't remember who was on the farm back then who he would have progressed with.
I continue to think that while the Flames handled him poorly in hindsight, he probably also re-evaluated and refocused himself after the trade. he needed to succeed or go down the road of other promising guys who struggled but never recovered, like Puljujarvi or Patrick.

The linseman I watched yesterday was crappy at dropping - Reschny had his stick across the dot to scoop it back pretty much before it left his hand.
