One of the greatest centres to ever lace them up. Not a comparison that any player will be able to live up to really.

I've watched a few of his games that have been on SN and he's been very impressive for his age. Taking important draws and really creating plays all over the ice. No Chance he's not in the top 6 conversation.....would be a nice C to pair with someone like Mckenna for sure....

As far as the aspects of a center's game that will give him a leg up at the NHL level though he looks like a home run from where the flames were picking.
He's not primarily a goal scorer. He can and will score, but his game is creating space and opportunities for his linemates by cycling and being patient with the puck, and then hitting them with a smart pass in the open. He's also not necessarily a dynamic (high risk) passing guy like Huberdeau was either. He just sees the ice so well, isn't afraid to go into the dirty areas to get the puck and knows when to hold onto it and when to thread it.

That's why I think he'll be a great compliment for guys like Coronato and Gridin as he'll make space for them and hit them in the open. The three of them on a line, the vision and work of Reschny, creativity of Gridin and shot of Coronato, could be a lot of fun for a number of years.

this is what a traditional NHL center looks like. id like to see him get his shot rates up and convert more into goals but he's having a great start to the year. It's still extremely early... i hope he continues to get better as season progresses.

I mean, obviously. We would need to pick up his Bossy...

McKenna though...

I jest. I obviously think it's unlikely that he gets to Trottier's level, but they are both small town saskatchewan farm boys, they are both 5'11 and ~190 lbs, they both play a strong puck possession game, Reschny showed Trottier level offensive upside in the playoffs...

I think the comparison is better than just a fun one.

Yes, it's overly optimistic. Well, according to that model at least: 50% he's 2nd line or better, 50% he's 3rd line or worse.

For a mid-1st round pick, that's neither spectacular nor a disappointment at this point.

Gives me Bryan Little type vibes (compliment). Somewhere between his career (minus the concussions) and Trottier's would rock. Not sure where that falls on a depth chart but should be a useful player with a long career.

Need to get to a place where he's slotted accordingly. If he's a 2C that's excellent, need to make sure they have a 1C to play ahead of him.

I think these are usually style comparisons. Does anybody ever actually do a career comparison before a player starts?

I like his two way game and his hockey IQ. When he got moved from the wing to center he excelled at the WJC. PP and PK. Good at the dot. Skates well. Not much to nitpick.

I hope the Flames don't rush him like they did with their last center prospect.

I want to say his comparable is Reinhart in some ways. Fantastic IQ, clutch player, not the best skater, but not bad either. Just a very cerebral player that performs best when on the ice with other players that think the game at a high level.

Would be hard to do a career comparison unless you only looked at junior.

I've heard Seth Jarvis as a best case outcome for Reschny, which would be absolutely incredible. Jarvis was an effective NHLer at 19.

Don’t think he’s got the ceiling Reinhart had but stylistically I like it!

Mabye it is not adjusted for low volume? Maybe a few wingers coming in have won 3 out of 4, or something like that? Seems wild that 66% is 4th!

He's 18 as well, still eligible to play from Team Canada next season, could really have a huge tournament next year.
