I think you have to rotate some. They play Friday in York. That's 3 matches in 7 days. Yes it is early in the year but those minutes add up and catch up to you

I think Laing starts for sure. I think Aird and Camargo rest for sure (who goes in for them can be debated). The other 8 spots are all debatable. I wouldn't play Kamdem but understand the logic in playing him. I think Herdman/Elva are borderline starters anyway so it hopefully isn't too big a drop off. The problem is the midfield. It is a beat up group and not a lot of options at the moment.

Tonight is the game to rotate IMO. Have to get the balance right to ensure you can get a result but it really shouldn't be an issue.

If I'm Tommy, I err slightly more on having the big guns get more minutes than I normally would. This team needs some early season confidence, and stomping these guys tonight is important for future league results.

I say rotate extensively because a) cup, and b) the starters haven't exactly been getting it done. Keep a few options on the bench to come in and rescue something if needed. A win gives everyone something positive to build on, rally around the young guys, etc. A loss and it will be a massive wake-up call like we've never seen before, which might be a net positive in the long run.

If last year is any indication, they're slow starters and need time to ramp up, and I'm not sure if a rout of an amateur side will accelerate that at all.

Per today's article in the Herald, Daley and Chanda have returned to training but are unavailable against Scottish.

More squad rotation than I anticipated. Wasn't expecting to see Antoniuk or Aird in the starting lineup. Kamdem at CB as well.

Aird is shocking to me, but hopefully he has a great match! Excited to see Elva and Wahling

Missed the first 35 minutes as Fubo was showing the Ottawa / Scrosoppi game, and of course I miss a couple goals. Not much to speak of in the 10 minutes I saw. Bigger crowd than I thought there would be.

Also apparently Edmonton Scottish are over $1 million in debt, with numerous pending lawsuits against them, and are at risk of going under. Pretty classic Edmonton soccer story that.

6-0 Cavalry over Scottish, with a whole lots of minutes for depth, USports and development players. I'll take it.

The highlights look awesome, a boatload of goals. The kids got the party started and the vets finished it off. Wahling with a goal and two assists, could be huge for him
Piepgrass' goal the best of the bunch

For anyone who was there, how did Antoniuk look?

Was that former Cav Jose Hernandez on Edmonton Scottish?

Not a bad night out. Crowd was smaller and the atmosphere was a bit flat, but all things considered (Tuesday night, amateur opponent, etc.) I thought it was expected and decent.

It was nice to see some goals, and most of them were of pretty good quality.

Hopefully this serves as a bit of a confidence boost and turning point heading off to York.

Crappy. I was even thinking maybe Edmonton Scottish could be the EDM team that join the CPL. Guess that is out of the question.

Only two games into the season and all, but its not looking good for VFC, York, or Valor. The league may be on life support.

I guess on the plus side, some clubs like Halifax and Cavalry have built really strong organizations and fan bases that could attempt to join other leagues if CPL doesn't make it long term. Unfortunately, MLS is out of the question.

Attendance-wise, or have they made statements about their finances?

Attendance wise, like I said, too early to call it for sure, but it doesn't look good. All revenue is tied to attendance.

VFC was always in tough with Whitecaps in their backyard. Same with York.

Valor is disappointing. They have a good thing going, but the big stadium is a problem.
